Thanks.
So the last couple turns I haven't given complete updates. Let's look at the micro. I have a bit more time today.
First the south:
Bacon! was connected last turn. The workers finished a cottage for it this turn. The 3rd worker started the chop on the river grassland forest that will complete in 3T and go into a settler in the cap. The cap finishes the granary in two turns. Then it will overflow a few hammers into a settler at 14hpt. This + the chop will give 50+ H in 2T then we will double whip the settler and overflow into a library I think while we regrow. The settler will settler on X and I will shuffle the workers so that the road is already built to it and they are ready to start cottaging the FPs asap.
That will be our 5th city. I think it will be settled T66. Currently we have 4, Azza has 4, scoopin has 3, jestacore still has 2. Something must have happened for them to still only be at 2 cities. Really ridiculous. They are going to easily be swallowed by scoopin later while we have to slug our way through Azza later...
You may also note our Axe is getting close to Bacon! to protect it. I currently have a warrior and Axe in the city and the other warrior can move into the city if need be. The only thing I have been worried about was a chariot attack from Azza since he has horses (though who knows how long it took him to set them up) and I only had the axe in the city for a while. I know I would have been tempted.
Luckily Azza seems to have been peaceful:
Still no change in his power, though you can see our axe build has now shown up on the graph. Scoopin has also increased power.
North:
Here you can see the worker being built in Bacon. It is at 41H with +9 this turn. Next turn I will whip it and we will get 28 overflow. The granary is at 29/60H. Natural production is 3 so: 28+29+3=60 and Granary complete. City will quickly regrow to 3 and I think to 4 with the granary. I think we should build a library here next after the granary. We will likely end up chopping or whipping I'll have to see. But every beaker we get is going to go a long way towards us making it to CoL before someone else.
bacon will finish the WB in 4 turns, the borders pop in 5 and the WB nets the fish immediately. I'm currently working the sugar for extra food so we will have 12F when the fish are netted. With fish and copper we're looking at a 4F surplus which means growth to 3 in 3 turns. I want to build a granary, but I also want an axe. I am seriously considering going axe after WB build, grow to 3, whip axe, overflow to granary. Remember we have a barracks in this city, yay. I want this axe to go get the hut. and I want to do it asap. Plus it will be important if we see more barbs. The alternative is to directly build the granary after the WB and whip that at 3 instead. I actually think this will be more efficient and net us more hammers in the long run, but we do slow our axe and increase the chances of someone else getting to that hut before us. This requires more thought. Any input?
I am really loving our start. The capital was great and the gems perfectly positioned. The copper city is working out well and we got the blocker city down on our IMP neighbor. Not only that we have room to expand and an adequate worker force. We have tech plan and a goal and a focus for those workers. Also demos aren't looking too shabby:
-2nd in food and 3rd in MFG. In an 18 player game that is great. Especially considering that the top MFG or top Crop is not likely at the top of the other category.
-We are 11th in GNP which is not bad because we're right around the rival average and we only have 1 culture building. The top GNPs have stonehenge and oracle, buddhism, hinduism and judaisim (which fell this turn). We're only teching a 1 pre-req tech and probably do not have any known tech bonuses.
-Above average power and 5th in soldier counts, without a large city.
-2nd in land I'm betting someone with more culture than us has 4 cities now.
-population is only 7th which is another reason our high hammer and food is amazing. This is the power of settling for resource tiles and improving them as quickly as possible. We have room to grow, the whip unhappy has worn off in all our cities. We need to whip (and we will) ASAP. Bacon and Bacon! are whipped next turn, the BACON in 5t, and bacon once we reach pop 3.
So on the horizon: Settle for FPs and horses, Settle for Ivory, Get Hut, Build cottages and libraries, Tech, tech, tech...
Something else that has come to mind. I think we might want to start saving gold until the libraries are built. I guess that depends on how fast we get the libraries built. I need to think about it and see how long it will take to build the libraries. I do intend on running Scientists and popping an early GS for an academy in the capital.
