Random notes that may help those new to GW

EDIT: this thread is full of spoilers!

- "alt" shows the signs, npcs, chests, wreckages, none hostile stuff.

- "ctrl" shows the enemies, other players.

- "ctrl + space bar" calls the target, party member can then use the "T" key (default) to select that target.

- The white circle around your character in the minimap is your aggro zone, any enemy (red dot) entering the circle will attack you.

- you can click in the minimap to ping, and draw lines in the minimap, good for showing directions and strategy.

- for most quests, when selected in the quest log, the minimap will show the direction of the objective as green arrow at the rim of the minimap if it's not within the minimap area, or as a green star if the objective is within minimap area.

- we can only swap the skills in town or outpost, and we can only have one elite skill in the skill bar.

Pre-Searing quests:
- Purifying the Hunter's Horn, when you reach the objective, use "alt" to locate the Healing Spring and click on it to purify the Horn.

- There are two quests that require a team:
( 1 ) the monk just outside Ascalon City will give you the Res Signet if you bring along a team mate.
( 2 ) There is a quest that require you to go over the wall to find an npc, the path is barred by a gate, and the lever to open the gate is on top of the gate, one of the team should operate the lever while the other go through the portal by the opened gate, that will send the whole team to the new area.

- The perfect present (where feather and shell are not good enough) is located in a chest north of where one retrieve the gold from bandits, one has to go uphill, use "alt" to help locate the chest.

I think the perfect present works a bit differently from that. I gave him the pendant first, and he rejected it. He accepted the third gift that I gave him though, which was the pearl.

Spoilers Also.

You have been warned.

The perfect gift quest is kinda weird. I stumbled across the flaming bandits, and upon finding the necklace, took it back and finally got to the Captain. He was happy, but Althea was not. Strange. I found the Pearl while trying to lead the bees across the river. Well, across the river did not solve the quest, but across the river and then to the far side of the bridge did. So much for lateral thinking! Pearl fell out of a shell. I try to give it to Althea and the Prince, and Captain Osric, no dice.

The Pendant is still in my stash. The quest is over. That don't seem right. ,What do I do with the Pearl? It won't sell.

I have two Bear Skins that are "quest items" and I still can't figure out which quest they go to.

*puzzled*

Power Gerbil is not the world's brightest Warrior/Mesmer. Will try to puzzle this out.

Started a new char and purposely hand in the necklace first, quest not complete, am guessing we need to hand in all three items (necklace, pearl and feather), regardless of sequence which they are handed in. Will report back later on this.

Bear skin is needed for a quest, only one is required IIRC, can't remember the quest giver though, check your quest log and see if you have got it. If not, either you have completed it or you have not obtained it.

We can still get quest items, e.g. feather, bear skins, etc. even after we have completed the quest, they don't have any sell value (like the starter weapons) and usually can't be salvaged, don't be afraid of sending them to the bin, which is to the right of the bag slots in inventory page.

The tanner in Ashford, even though I can't remember her name. It's part of the Little Thom's cloak quest (iIrc).

I haven't done it yet, but you can speak with Althea after accepting the quest from Osric, and instead of finding the feather/pearl/pendant, she says something about being annoyed and the quest (I'm assuming) ends.
I did talk to her which is how I noticed this, but didn't 'accept' what she had said.

Also, in the catacombs, be aware there are alot of 'blind corners'. Quite easy to miss your turn, and spend half an hour wading through skeletons only to find a dead end.

I did speak to her when she was mad, but I did not Accept either. Had the same experience with Cats as well, was in there with a Necro just wandering about. Dead end with skeletons . . . there is a pun in there somewhere.

A couple tips I just learned recently:

- If you're a Monk, you can get the Resurrect skill before Yak's Bend. Grazden the Protector in Old Ascalon (near the Sardelac Sanitarium) first sends you on a mission to find Paulus the Abbot, then he sends you to tell a woman just outside of Ascalon City what happened to Paulus. That second step rewards you with Resurrect and Live Vicariously. Paulus can be found fairly easily by leaving Fort Ranik and following the Regent Valley "zone wall" to your right (travelling west on the north edge).

- You can identify all items except for collector items, and they will almost always then sell for more than they would un-identified. Sometimes it's only a few gold more, but other times you may get an extra 10 or 15. In my experience this averages out to you making more gold even after you factor in the cost of an ID kit. Also, be sure to ID quest rewards, I sold an axe&bow reward for 113 gold the other day.

- If an item stacks and shows a 'value' field by default, it's a collector item and some NPC somewhere will want it. If you don't want to deal with crafting your armor, this is the only other way to get it, so hold on to them.

First mission spoiler:

During the final part of the mission, skipping the cinematic gives more time for the run. Not that it's really necessary, but thought I would share this anyway.

As with the above, skipping the cutscene at Elona also saves ~2 minutes off of your 30 minute timer, apparently.
