Current state of the military: Inadequate.



Current state of the Troll military: Adequate.





Current state of the empire: Happy Starved.


Once the happiness dries up I'll swap to Heredity Rule.

Current state of the Troll scientists: Just researched Military Science. Expecting Grenadiers and Ships of the Line to start showing up. Currently researching Steam Power, once Machine Guns start rolling we're dead.

Current state of the Pirates scientists: Fired to upgrade Musketmen to Riflemen. Overflowed into Drama to run Culture slider in a pinch. Will research Steel after Muskets and meager navy have been upgraded.

Change of plans, Universal Suffrage Cash Rush Grenadiers/Ships of the Line, and upgrade later, since I'll only be in US for a couple more turns. Plus, nothing upgrades to Ships of the Line, and Muskets don't upgrade to Grenadiers.

Message from Trolls, asking why we picked Gillette over them ...

... (1) Gillette asked us to join their cause. Trolls basically said "we'll eat you in 30 turns".
... (2) we think it's a lost cause anyway, so not a big deal in the end (except that it can't be said we tried to hide in the skirts of the victor.
... (3) do Trolls really think we can make gains against their droves of cannon and cavalry and soon-to-be machine guns? Little us, the game-long runts of the litter? I certainly do not expect to do a bit of good ... and yet I do not see a better path to victory. We could just steal Tortuga back

Anyway, that's my totally unhelpful 2 cents. None of that is sarcastic btw.

It was the Trolls' saying 'We're going to eat you T230' that did it for me. My thinking was, 'if war is inevitable, we might as well do it while they're distracted with Gillette.'

The thought of allying with the Trolls and invading M3 T220 (when the NAP expires) crossed my mind... I can't quite remember why I decided against it.

I cash rushed two Ships of the Line. I make enough GPT to rush about 1.5 per turn.

Retrospect: I should've built more Mounted units... some Knights to upgrade to Flanking 2 Cavalry to kill off some Cannons would be nice. I never build enough Mounted units.

I think Old Harry is done for. Trolls have 35 Cavalry, 31 Rifles, and 32 Cannons marching on Occam's Razor (Gillette's capital), and to counter it Old Harry has 17 Rifles, 11 Grenadiers, 25 Muskets, and 34 Cannons. Old Harry's lack of Rifling is killing him here.

Nothing left to do but sing songs and make references...

Without Cavalry for flanking it's much harder to counter Cannon. Even after throwing in all the cannon Gillette still won't have odds on much since the undamaged 12-STR cannon can defend.

Aaand of course we're going to run into the same problem even if Gillette survives since we don't have any Cannons or Cuirassiers.

The trolls are about to clean house. I couldn't find a picture of a troll with a broom in 2 minutes of Google so it's a robot.
