So, I've gotten myself to Lion's Arch already.
On foot.
From the Frost Gate.
It was an interesting journey, to say the least. Level 18 enemies sure are fun to fight with a bunch of level 8 Henchmen ^_^
And also, I got some sidequests containing some major spoilage regarding the main quest.
But I disgress.
I took the chance to look around and realized why the place was familiar. Open events happened there! Nifty. I went to talk with the Guild Registrar and he sent me to talk with the Ferry Captain if I wanted a Guild Hall. So I did, and here's a quick rundown of the available choices:
1. Warrior's Isle. Looks familiar? It was the design of the Guild Hall back in the day, I'm not sure if there were more in the open event, but it's the only one I saw.
2. Hunter's Isle. Nice and greenish, perhaps the overcast sky isn't too cheerful, but there you are.
3. Wizard's Isle. A bit like Warrior's Isle, but with a bit more "classic" design, so to speak.
4. Frozen Isle. Snow! What else needs to be said?
5. Nomad's Isle. With all the charm of the desert, this could be anywhere in the mediterranean, albeit more likely on the African coast.
6. Druid's Isle. I was expecting something a bit more lavish and greenish, but hey, at least there are some trees there!
7. Isle of the Dead. Pretty self explaining...
8. Burning Isle. Finally, the classic molten rock/volcano lair.
Now, choices choices! I realize I could have gotten appropiate screenshots by googling a bit, but this was more fun ^_^
As for me? 1 or 5, Warrior's or Nomad's. What would you prefer? ^_^

Wow! Congrats, Walkiry, on getting to LA so quickly!
For style, I really like the oriental flavor of the Warrior's Isle. But, I seem to remember reading on one of GW's "Fansite Friday" reports that Guild vs. Guild battles would take place in one of the guild halls - I don't know if that turned out to be true or not, but should we consider the defensive fortifications offered by the different designs? Do they actually differ, or is it purely cosmetic? It looks as though the Hunter's or Wizard's Isle designs might be more secure, just from the screenies.
But I still like the Warrior's Isle design the best.
Cheers,
Hawkmoon

Assuming there are no tactical difference between the halls, I like Frozen Isle best. Reminds me of Banff Alta., and easy to decorate for xmas with cool lighting, Something I can call home
Warriors Isle comes in second.
Who is taking donations for the hall?

Soul Edge is. We checked if I could purchase the Hall, but the Guild Leader is needed. So, I've just finished helping him rush to Lion's Arch. It was quite an adventure ^_^

My preference:
1. Wizard's Isle
2. Warrior's Isle
After taking Walkiry Express , I am in Lion's Arch, went to the Warrior's Isle to talk to the person in charge, and was told to get a sigil before I can buy the hall.
The sigil can either be bought from the sigil trader, or from random drop in the Hall of Heroes. Sigil trader told me he is out of stock, it's like most other merchants (dye, crafting materials, etc.), the sigil is supply by players, the demand must be very high and the supply very low for it to be out of stock, and it will probably cost a bomb even when there is stock.
Well, the other way is the PvP way. A search in GWOnline forum yielded the following information:
Sigil is a random drop in the Hall of Heroes, Hall of Heroes is reached via Tomb of the Kings (after a few PvP on different maps, depend on number of players fighting at that time). Tomb of the Kings is after the Dragon's Lair mission, and Dragon's Lair mission is the forth mission after Sanctum City.
That's for PvE (role play) character.
PvP character can go straight to Tomb of the Kings, but cannot go to Lion's Arch to buy the hall. So if no PvE character reaching Tomb of the Kings yet, a PvP character can obtain the sigil and gives the sigil to PvE character in one of the earlier arenas. I am not sure how that works, since I have not done any PvP yet.

Well, I got to Lion's Arch this evening too (like Walkiry, pretty much entirely on my own, unless you count the bit where Soul Flayer completed the final mission on his own while me and all our henchmen were dead -- IMO corpse tactics are a much neglected art in GW, as they were in Diablo) and took a look around the guild hall islands.
I liked warrior's isle, much as it pains me to say it. Japanese style architecture and pleasantly light and green with good beaches.
Hunter's isle, much as it pains me say it, was dark and gloomy, even if it was a green colored gloom.
The architecture in Wizard's Isle was clunky.
Frozen Isle was just too cold and snowy, even with the odd lit brazier, though it was fun to walk on the icy sea. I'm sure Eskimo's (and Canadians) would love it though.
Nomad's isle was just too dry and barren.
Druid's Isle was actually quite green and luxurient outside the buildings themselves. It was alright.
Isle of the Dead was pretty much a tomb. Brr.
My feet hurt just walking around Burning Isle -- I kept looking at my health bar to see if I was taking damage. It had some kind of flag tower that I didn't see on the other islands, though I didn't explore too much.
My votes would be:
1. Warrior's Isle;
2. Druid's Isle;
3. Something else.
Edit: p.s. I gather from
http://www.theamazonbasin.com/gw/forums/...topic=1545
that the guild halls are intended for guild vs guild combat and have different maps. I base my preferences entirely on aesthetics.

I vote:
1. Warrior's Isle
2. Wizard's Isle
3. Frozen Isle
The dungeon/undead looking one is neat, and I like it, but it's not really the look we probably want to go for.

I think I best like Hunters isle. After that, Warriors and Frozen probablly look the best, IMO.
Didn't really explore them too much, just glanced at the starting areas last night, but I do believe they are susposed to have tactical advantages and disadvantages. I guess it really depends if we're going to PvP alot or not, on wether we should chose a guild hall based on looks or what works best in PvP. Then again we can always adapt to it. =P

Choose a hall based on look for the time being. As you said, we can always adapt to it. Besides, we don't know enough about the dis/advantages of yet, and the style of play we would adapt, in general.

Well, just a quick update. I've reached Sanctum Cay already (exploration is fun). Soloing Riverside Province was... fun, although frustrating.
The first time I was almost at the end, but I found a boss that I had to positively, absolutely, kill. I couldn't damage him faster than he damaged me with the bow, and when equipped with Sword+Shield I lacked an interrupt skill to stop him before healing himself. I tried several ways, including trying to swap just before the healing happened, but in the end it was just too much. The second time I managed to get by with some henchies, I shall try again this weekend because I'm sure this can be soloed. Great mission for someone who likes to run by and rush avoiding combat, hehe.
Anyway, I have to explore around first, but I think that the only way forward now is to, again, complete the cooperative mission. I gave it a couple of tries yesterday before going to sleep, but I was unable to rush to the end. I reached a choke point where a bone dragon boss lurks with some minions over one of those poisonous swamps, which proved a tad too much for my poor level 15 character to rush through.
But I noticed that the PvP area next to the Henge of Denravi (did I spell that right?) is the area where my test PvP character appeared just after being created. So if we're going to get the Sigil the hard way we could create PvP characters and I could do the PvP-PvE swap for it.
I don't know why, but I love rushing like this
EDIT:
Quote:I am not sure how that works, since I have not done any PvP yet.
For what I've seen, a PvP character has a few PvP area markers on the map where they can travel if they want, and the pre-PvP part is just like a cooperative mission (small area where you can form teams and such before clicking the "enter mission" button), except that it reads "competitive mission". I'm not sure if we can trade the Sigil around or if my PvE character will have to be part of the PvP team, though.
