Maybe... but I wouldn't count out a probe attack. Azza's power decreased... mischief

So I'm sure global lurkers know that dtay has razed one of BlackSword/Jowy's cities. I can see it in civstats myself. Hopefully they won't roll over too hard. Can't say I'm surprised since Jowy does not really know how to play this game well, but I think the Black Sword has been playing most of the turns and not doing too badly, so maybe dtay is just pretty good? Or pretty aggressive?

Azza also planted another city last turn so when I logged in he was 2 cities ahead of us. Welcome to IMP Azza. We have now at least caught up 1 city with BaconWrap:

I hope this appeases the lurkers memory somewhat.

You may also note the wetriverwheat and the sheep there just across the ocean. I sortof really want sailing now. I think that land might be connected to the main landmass but maybe its just a big island. Either way its juicy.

One may also note from the Screen that our latest city just elevated our costs by 6gpt. That's pretty hefty, especially considering we only get about 25ish gpt at 0%. Currency will be a big help, but the next 2 cities are only going to be worse.

Tech we need for economy: CoL, Sailing>calendar, IW, Monotheism, PH, Monarchy
Tech we need to defend: Myst>Masonry>Construction, HBR

So after Col, I really want to get some nice econ techs, but I fear Azza getting antsy. I hope, hope, hope that his economy is crashing hard. It's a definite possibility given the # and distance of cities + his MFG economy and lack of gold or gems to work until now. I assume that his gold should be online soon. As long as it takes Azza twice as long to tech to construction than us we can reach it in time. Having currency to build markets and even just to build wealth will be a big advantage.

Maybe we chop a market into the capital. I think it might be a good use of forests.

do you think we should use wealth builds to rush COL? worth it if its the difference between us landing the religion.

love the land mass, I hope its a large island as well.. but I think more likely we will find another civ over there before too long.

Jowy went heavy religion + oracle, this isn't shocking at all.

YUP!

I'm going to play the CoL possible wealth builds thing by ear. I need to see how currency + the new city will effect the time to tech CoL.

Man I am just pleased. Things are going well. This was turn 83 and we're two turns from settling our southern city. 7 from our western. We are expanding at the top of the curve and yet, we are ahead of the science curve.

Today we got currency. And it is glorious. At 100% tech we get CoL in 6 turns. Just 6! Unfortunately our costs are at 23gpt currently so we need more gold. Good thing we're making 42gpt at 0% even without any modifiers. How many cottages are we working? 13 cottages, many of which are hamlets. Mnnn mnnn good. I mean look at these demos:

It says 59 GNP and that is at 0% tech. At 100% it is 95! That's 30 up on the top rival. Food is right at the top. We're only really lacking in MFG, but I don't much care about that when we're still chopping and whipping. We do need to catch up in land area, but the next two cities should help. We're also good with our military for the moment.

I looked at our neighbor's gold and only Azza is currently getting gpt. He's getting 16gpt. He must be feeling the hurt on those new cities. On the GNP graph its clear that Scoopin are getting about 45-50 GNP now. So they're doing well enough. Fin/Org after all.

Let's take a look at the cities and micro:

North first:

First I've got the WB heading around the South side there. Maybe it is an island. I really want a galley to ship a chariot over to see though. That WB needs to come south however to net the fish in our new city down there.

Workers have finished camping the ivory so that's given us +1 happy. Bacon wrapped is working a cottage and the two workers will cottage more shared Grassland there as well. They also will farm and road the rice. I need 1 worker to chop and farm the forestgrass west of Bacon wrapped so that it has a +3 food tile. The chop into the granary.

Bacon is growing on an archer. 2ts to growth back onto a hamlet or the rice.

bacon is going to whip the settler in 3t. I have that city working a coast tile over the sugar because the food isn't growing the city and the extra hammers do not change the whip date. This way we get a bit of extra commerce for about 6 hammers. It's kind of like building wealth.

Southern half:

Bacon! is going to pop borders in 4t, then we'll chop that plainshillforest Azza sits his warrior on so that its less defended. The chop will complete the granary. Then i think we'll chop into a library and 2 pop whip that. The city itself is just growing and working cottages, go money maker go.

BAcon is going to finish the granary this turn. Then it starts a library. I have a worker there that is going to chop the forest into the Library and by working the horses twice we have enough hammers to 2 pop whip it. That library should be up in 5t which will contribute to CoL and faster tech.

The settler is in the capital and will plant in 2t. A worker is roading to the site and when the city plants that worker will move to the FP to cottage. Then we'll chop into a granary in that city as well.

The capital is building a worker, complete in 4t. Then I think we'll either build a market or military. It depends on Azza.

Other thoughts:
Nobody has built GLH or Mids yets. Maybe we should have gone for the mids. We didn't have stone though, and I am pretty satisfied with how things are working. It would have been awesome to have rep scientists in our academy though and to have police state if we wanted when we reached knights. I think both of these should fall soon though. I think Scoopin want to go on an expansion spree without having to build a lot of military, which is why they built the Great wall. I think its sub optimal but at least they had stone to do it. And they will have marble soon enough. That is probably my only gripe. The lack of Stone and marble for our civ.

I enjoy sitting in game and just looking at the empire.

Oh one other gripe I have is that we haven't met any other civs beyond our immediate neighbors. We haven't even met commodore...

I wonder if a 2t detour to sailing would be more worth it? I might build another WB after the settler in bacon. It should take 4t... I probably should just let the current scouting WB scout and build a new WB to net the fish... Yeah I think that's what we'll do.

CoL in 9 turns? The maint is 23gpt so 138gold is needed without wealth builds. That means 3t of 0% and 6t 100%. Do I want to speed this up with wealth builds? The maint is low enough that its possible wealth builds could shave off 2 turns. I don't know if that's worth it.

Anyone want to reassure me that nobody is rushing CoL through Priesthood?

I dunno either, I feel like we are pretty quick to it but will be really sad if we barely miss out of Confucianism. It depends on how much you have to sacrifice. Don't delay the settler, but delaying a few granaries for a few turns seems worth it.

as for sailing, that sounds good, but this is the stage in the game when there are so many techs we need! hehe. sailing, Iron working for clearing out jungle, calender for all the new pretty resources (maybe outside shot of MOM, even), you want military techs - and if we land confuscianism, we'll need polytheism and monotheism soon too.

I could live w/ sailing->IW->calender->religious techs, if azza doesn't force us to detour to construction.

I remember us being this strong economically about this time in pb8, before we got forced into a long cold war w/ azza. we have more room to expand and better land & civics/leader, though, so lets not repeat that! smile

For new cities we can do BACON BACON & baconbaconbacon

Talked to Bigger yesterday and we decided we'd Wealth build the quickest CoL we could.

So 6t it is. Once the cap and bacon finish their worker and settler builds I'll be able to switch them over to wealth and actually gain gold at 100% tech.

The biggest news though has to be our newfound tech visibility on Azza. LOOK! He's teching currency! We're safe!
