Two coast cities sending food to each other is easy to protect and basically hanging gardens wonder in each, well actually better. And easy to guard.
Agreed on the city spot, it's quite optimal distance from capital as well. But still have some unfogging to do up there.

Agreed on that its just that the money of the traderoutes is very much needed too especially if one wants to have a large enough military.

Both of my scouts got hit by barbarians. No time to heal though, there's still a lot of potential ruins undiscovered, and I haven't even met a single city state so far. I can see borders of one up north, but that's where Jkaen's warrior came, so he's probably scouted that part already.
Speaking about ruins though...

Granary completes, and I'm now about to grow in 3 turns. Starting shrine next for the pantheon, also coming in 3. Scout finds new ruins, netting me another 60 gold
Meanwhile my warrior pops one of the ruins for culture! I choose the tradition opener straight away. Next policy coming already in 3 turns.
Western scout finds more ruins, which he will loot next turn. Rage quit if the result is anything less than a tech! Who needs Shoshone pathfinders anyway?

Just researched Mining and now starting Archery. My warrior finds some spears from the ruins, and logically becomes a spearman.
I'm not making any gpt, while Jkaen has +6 every turn ![yikes yikes](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/yikes.gif) . He spent most of his money last turn, I'm guessing for a worker.

I'm working cows (3f), wheat (2f 1h) and horses (1f 2h), so zero commerce tiles. I'm growing next turn and will be able to work either furs or copper for +2 gold. Then again, shrine will be finished as well, so I should get to +1 gpt

I adopted Legalism for the free monument, now making +6 culture per turn.
Ruins reveal the location of one barbarian camp ![frown frown](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif) It's visible on the left side in the picture below. My scout is heavily injured, but there's more ruins on sight, so keep going!
Starting a worker next, coming in 6. My capital:

Got a free pop from ruins, so I'm now working the copper as well. As a bonus, my worker is finishing a turn earlier, coming in 4.
