[SPOILERS] WillPlunder as Mehmed of Arabia: Noobs meet world

Then PP is probably worth even more than a uni in our capital.

Oxford is still so far away that I don't consider it a real factor. Whether or not and when we can build it is also very dependent on external factors such as this war.

It's not that far away! If we wanted it really soon we could actually bulb Education with the Scientist we have, but I'm saving him for another golden age. There's no "whether or not": we can build it for sure. With this war, we might be able to make quick gains or not, but we're under basically 0 counter threat.

We will get PP eventually, as well as Education. In the calculation it doesn't really matter if Oxford far away, only how many turns it's earlier or later. The exception would be if there were a lot of value to more beakers right now (like in the next 10 turns.) But we don't have a pressing need for that - we can make long term investments to some extent. This game is going to go on a long time!

Actually I'm kind of leaning on:
- Get alphabet this turn.
- See if we have a good shot at the Economics merchant. If we do, Education is a no-brainer to me. (The cost is the cost of Alphabet, but at this point in the game it's pretty low.)

Quote:ps. should we maybe fortify our shrine-city a bit more? currently it's relatively vulnerable to be sniped by our seafaring competitors, and it would really hurt us badly!

Yeah, maybe, lol. Someone (probably Boldly) would have to sail over a lot of coast for it though (can't go through ocean until Astro), and we have a lot of vision on the seas.

Yes, I agree, if we have a fair shot at the merchant, go for it.

Statistics screen.

I don't see anywhere in the statistics screen for hamlets/villages/towns. There are units and there are buildings. Oh and cities.

Hm, will need to check it in game. It was a while after I played a game which was long enough for this to matter but I'm pretty sure that I was always able to learn number of my villages/towns without counting them manually.

Checked in-game. It looks like the feature I talked about is a part of a BUG-mod.

At this point you have expended about 1,000% the effort required to count up a few dozen villages/towns visually.

The turn:

We lost a 79% caravel vs trireme fight, but another caravel cleaned it up. I'm whipping a couple more caravels out of Spaghetti because full control of the water there is pretty crucial - allowing ferrying units to and from the front line. Honestly I'm playing poorly not taking advantage of that even at this moment.

The 2-movers needed to be moved with the 1-movers, or else the results after 4 cats of collateral didn't look that good. This way he can suicide all he wants.

The sign in Sam Walton is accurate - his forces are split nearly evenly in 2 places. This is probably pretty bad for him - if we advance on Standard oil after this, the stuff in SW will just be isolated for the taking.

Meanwhile Retep finishes Astro next turn. (yikes)

Boldly got alphabet recently. Notably he's still missing Lit (and hence NE / HE), is two techs from Optics, and is down Paper. So he's not in the running for the econ merchant, unless he has tricks like bulbs. Is prioritizing Alphabet over getting a HE city set up really ever a good idea in a NTT game?

On PP vs Education:

- We have about 20 towns + villages, plus 2 that mature in the next couple of turns. I didn't count that carefully. A few of the cities have (or will very shortly) banks and markets. All have libraries. The capital has the bureau multiplier and an academy. So I'm guessing the difference for PP is somewhere in the ballpark of 35-40 adjusted commerce.

- The capital has 62 base commerce. We're break-even at about 60% now (with costs of units in Kuro's borders). So a ballpark for what Oxford is worth is about 37 beakers per turn. Plus there is the extra 25% beakers for the cities that would build universities for prereqs.

So it's not a landslide but I'm pretty sure in the long run getting Unis + Oxford earlier is a little ahead. Countering this, PP helps with Edu but maybe not the other way around unless we delay it further.

I am 1-turning alphabet now, to see where we stand to the others, especially, Bandit has quite a bit of mystery.

I'm pretty sure having to report and defend the details of all my actions in this game right now would burn me out on Civ at this point! rolf
