[SPOILERS] Dhal gets ready to bungle another game (oh yeah some guy is dedlurking)

That was planned to be my second city originally when I spotted it, but the suggestion was that since it would take Fishing and Mysticism (for border pops) to get anything other than a dry corn online, it would be a weaker second city and should be the third city.

Thanks so much for the feedback - that alone helps me immeasurably when plannning other future city sites too.

Hopefully I can get the save from Azza in the next few hours and plan my next few moves.

Something I just spotted about that corn/cow spot. If I settle that later, as a fourth, fifth, or even later city, I can settle it 1S on the plains tile on the coast. That will give me coastal trade routes, and by then Liberty Island will have it's next border pop and I'll be able to work the corn without a border expansion. That adds the fish in to the city, making it a triple food bonus city, which will be much stronger, and also has less overlap with the capital, which by that stage of the game will, in my opinion, seem less appealing.

And thats different from your point with Plains Cows and dry corn ... how? ... given the pick between those two i'd much rather have horses and, down the road, coast fish and gems, than a at best so-so Cow/Corn with no other selling points

I agree.

Actually - a question.

Cities spread irrigation on flat ground - this I know - do they spread it only after civil service?

yes ... irrigation can only be spread after civil service ... the specifics about how they're spead (via cities or irrigation) is irrelevant

If you want to go for horses, then the worker should start moving towards there after finishing at the pigs. I'll sim it out later. Ideal I think either has a worker ready to start pasturing the horses the same turn the city is done (with road in place) or on the corn...

I would prefer the corn - the horses aren't necessary to hook up that fast, and the corn will let us grow onto the horses quicker and overall be better off.

First impression, need Wheel before BW to have the ability to lay roads to speed settler. Checking if we can still land the slavery revolt while in transit that way.
