[SPOILERS] The Rise of Lewger: A BacoN of Bacon Revenge (bacOn bAcoNbAcon) Bacon

(October 29th, 2013, 21:43)Lewwyn Wrote: Nothing new really. Dtay got Statue of Zeus which is nice. Also means he's up on the Aesthetics tech line. I wonder if he'll head to GLib? I'm pretty sure at this point that if we went for Glib instead of Confu we would have gotten GLib no sweat. In the end though Confu is probably the right call.

I started IW. At 100% we're -70gpt so not great. We are feeling the effects of our island colonization. However I'm only seeing 4gpt maintenance in cities so courthouses at this point are not going to give spectacular results. We do need some though for the EPs though. We need to get graphs on Comm and keep tech vision on Azza. Azza is putting all EPs into us and our EP advantage is eroding. I need to get confu spread more in order to get more OR bonus on all these buildings. I haven't seen anymore spreads since Azza converted. Currently, my next planned missionary is 10 turns out.

I say build courthouses where we can fit them in. it may only save 2 gpt right now, but it'll save a lot more turns down the road, and getting the 2gpt and 2eps sooner doesnt hurt.

some extra pictures I took this weekend.

Q, I'm not sure what you mean. what city could we safely rope off the whole island with? I agree w/ lewwyn - we could get the crabs and "claim" the island with the northern C? spot 5E of the visible fish, but I don't think thats safe. Its going to be very temping for Scooter to try to take it, even if they didn't have war intentions previously, and will be hard for us to defend. I think we settle the desert spot, and then settle the crabs/horse spot later (that would be too aggressive for them) and just face that there is a good chance we lose the crab spot to them in the short term (the good news is it will be very vulnerable if we ever go to war). we also need to settle the eastern gems spot, more spots in the jungle, several backfil spots, and there is at least one more city we can build on a different island, so its not a good time to get to aggressive w/ our settling.

I'm not sure I like the central city to claim all dyes. For lurker reference, Lewwyn had tagged the city? spot 3E of the rice. It seems to panicky now - a rush to grab all the dyes and deny scooter and nakor. It does deny pretty much all of them toe veryone else, but it keeps us from really utilizing them effectively, except for monopolizing a trade good. it has no food, so we have to build farms on the bare grassland squares, which means we can't build workshops - but there still isn't enough food to whip consistently at all, so we won't have squat for infastructure to take advantage of the commerce from the dyes.

im not convinced we need to rush. why not split hte dyes into 2 or even 3 cities? we're right up on the dyes right now, any settle on them by scooter or nakor would be very aggressive and quite easy for us to take at our leisure, I think. I also think its more likely both of then are going to rush towards a banana city on their shred border (I didn't take a picture, but you can kind of see the region in the NW corner of this picture).

I think the first city should be on the riverside plains just south of the gems, as I marked above. it claims the sugar second ring, giving it enough food not only to pick up both gems if needed but the 2 hill tiles, so we can build some mines and get production going on the border (also workshops down the road if needed). we can use the first confu missionary on this city if we don't get a lucky free spread (which we may, being on the river).

If we are willing to concede the crab city on the Island to scooter (theoretically, they may not want to be that aggressive), we can send our second settle over here as well (I think we should). where depends on what Nakor does. if they have claimed a rice/banana city, we can settle it in the original spot, or we can settle 1w (on the dye) to pick up the rice and share the sugar. if they haven't settled a city in this area at all (which is a possibility) then we can get a bit more aggressive and settle on the grassland hill 1 NE of the rice - safely (somewhat) claiuming a large chunk of land, as well as first ring rice and dyes (and also 2 additional forests to chop). in that situation we can have a third backfill city to pick up the rest of the dye - either right on the border w/ scooter (sharing bacon wraps copper and grassland farm) or 2s of that on the river, depending on how aggressive we want to be.

The risk? we probably give up the northern crabs spot of our island to scooter, *if* they want it. I'm willing to take that risk. the other risk is nakor declaring war - I did notice they moved up to #1 power in the region. but i'm interpreting that as not wanting to be picked on by pindiscooter anymore, and also realizing that they setttled pretty agressively towards azza. also we have a woodsman 2 axe in the area that will make any invasion by them a pain in the ass smile. i'd like to use our next 2 settlers to settle this area, then settlers 3 and 4 to settle the desert spot and the sheep/horse spot on the island.

I'm suggesting the sheep spot on the island. After that, the incense and other sites are just backfill.
Problem with not founding for all the dyes is we later have to found a really tenuous/exposed city to grab the rest, and its not like rice/ sugar are great resources, and they are quite exposed. All in all, if we found there soon we need a ton of workers and some military committed to develop them, whereas the island cities require comparatively much less investment to get up and running.

Our iron. What did I say earlier about the Bacon! plant? I believe it was, I bet there's iron there. Boom.

Also note Azza and Nakor's close borders and the iron there. Nakor has another source of iron. Azza has one too in the south in the tundra. We have a second source on that island we have to explore.

Demos are a bit sad. We're pretty much middling in all of them. Even at 100% tech we're 2nd now... I think Dtay got the GLib as well as the statue of Zeus. He's really killing it.

Wait to conquer Nakor. Not really worried about his placement. 2 movers can hit that no probs. Scoopin have 4 move triremes and galleys, joy. 2 confu spreads yay! Scoopin have 3 cities with confu now.

I am considering Monarchy for HR before CS. CS take 14! turns. Azza teched HBR and is now teching calendar, so no Construction. Monarchy gets me happy everywhere. Bacon, bacon and BACON are in danger of growing unhappy if I don't. not sure if its worth delaying CS another 4 turns. Yes CS takes 14 but if I get monarchy before CS it takes 18 basically from this turn. However those cities growing into unhappy will be bad. I'm trying to decide.

Eff it I'm going to save and go straight for bureaucracy. I'll have to rush out missionaries for Bacon and bacon to get +1 happy cap. BACON will just be capped at 9 for now. Scoopin and Commodore are both at max tax right now and getting 85gpt compared to my 65gpt. They are both Fin. It's pretty insane to me how even in RBmod Fin is still so powerful. I need to rush to EDU, bulb it and get cheap universities.

In which we get maps of the world.

First though:

lol forgot Nakor was Rome.

Maps.

Why Mackoti will win:

Yes Mackoti has just cut a swath across the top there and created huge amounts of highly resourced backfill...
Also note though that Mackoti has confu! SPREAD BABY SPREAD!

A closer look at the border between Mack and Suttree:

That land is ridiculous.

But WTF is up with sutttree's capital? He must have moved to get ocean capital... Terrible.

Why Plako will win:

Does he have any real enemies? Just tons of land to expand into? greatttttt.

Why other will not win:

Culture map gives you luls.

Survey says... Likely not winning with the amount of neighbors we have.

well I disagree w/ that completely. But its moot now, since Nakor forced the issue. I'm not too scared about praets, they are terrible on defense w/ Rbmod (we already beat them w/ axes once).. the real issue is not having hammers, so I think we'll need maces and cho-kus to take that city. In the mean time, should we found 2N, 1NW of baconator to claim some of the dyes?

After the 2 island spots, of course, its suddenly less of a priority.

Lewwyn, you are probably right about mackoti & Plako.. but there's 17 teams, its still going to take luck for anyone to win... lets win our region and go for a top 3 finish, I think thats reasonable smile and if we are able to conquer azza and nakor later, who knows smile

I think I need a kick in the ass. Turns have been a bit boring because I'm building infrastructure, saving gold and now teching CS. I feel like I'm stagnating not making things happen, and while I believe it necessary I am worried when our GNP drops to 4th at 100% science... And the rival best is at 300 GNP and we're at 175ish.

Meanwhile Scopin has settled 3 cities, one of them on our island at the top, which I am not super concerned about because I figured they would do that. The interesting thing is they brought the settler with a spear and could have easily killed our Sentry Chariot, but didn't. I seriously believe that they do not want to fight with us at all. I mean they gave us their maps. I think they are A) more worried about nakor and commodore attacking them, and B) more worried that if they get into a war Plako or dtay or Mackoti. I want to attack them and slow them down etc., but I need them to be friendly with us and I need them to get really strong so that there isn't another runaway. The biggest difference between us is they have stone, marble and FIN. It's created a 20+ gpt gap in addition to the wonders and cheap national wonders.

Bigger I need you to take a look and throw out some near future plans or goals for me to work towards. Stagnation and directionlessness are the biggest danger in a civ game and right now I need some ideas to bounce off.

FYI I have two settlers being built 5 and 6 turns out, One on the island and one from the capital. I've also got the WB to make contact with Bacchus and about to make contact with Ichabod or Dhalphir whichever light blue is there.

ok, I logged in a took a bunch of pictures. I have some ideas - we can set goals for expansion. we've missed out on any early wonders, so we can focus on the wonders of settlers and workers smile.

so we need to settle remaining spots available to us and then focus on military expansion after that.

anyway I have to head off to mass now, Ill post a longer post w/ some ideas during the Cowboys game later. I don't think we're in bad shape, though, we just need to refocus, as you say.
