Mission idea for tonite

Mission - Fort Ranik. Retake the Great North Wall.

I ran solo with henchies last nite all the way to the front of the Wall. Not knowing I should have collected all the catapult parts before I active the Charrs, or whatever it is that would allow me to get the parts and restore the catapult before the Charr army amass to block the entrance to the Wall. The henchies managed to get themselves killed in short order, and again after I used up the one time res signet of the healer. The Healer woke up and res'd the war, and of course he just had to go charge in and kiss Charr toe nails.

So Demi was left alone, refusing to give up without a good fight. She managed to pull and kill a handful of Charrs but what was fun was that she was trying to sneak thru the army to grab the last part of the catapult. It ended up that broken pile was empty without parts but she did manage to sneak in and out. In the end, I had to try something more daring and get killed so I can go to sleep.

I am thinking this would make a nice run with PoO's SoulFlayer, Cy's Oxide, and we still have room for one more Clvl 8-9-10 character. Even if just the 3 of us, we might want to forego getting a henchman tho we can still hire one.

It would be fun to not use the catapult to mass kill the Charrs, and test our skill pulling small waves of rushing Charrs.

Hmm, how many times does the pit get refilled with Charr army?

If the time works out, Soulie of Realms (mo/mes) would like to join, she has res skill. thumbsup

I suggest not to open any catapult wreckages until one talks to the NPC, so that the nearest three wreckages will yield the parts after talking to the NPC.
As for refill of Charrs, no idea of the first pit, but for the second pit, one has to activate them before they will group at the pit, and that's just the once, no refill unless suicide puller draw them to pit and other party member fire the catapult. lol

Using catapult will give no experience and drops, more incentive to pull and kill those Charrs, although the challenge is incentive enough. thumbsup

If you meant 9:30ish pm PST, that's 5:30ish am GMT, I MAY still be up, but don't be surprised if I am not. tongue

I blew that mission the first time because I didn't realize there were *two* working catapults.

You kill the first charrball with the cat you repair. Then you work around to the right and circle up by the wall and find a second, already-operational catapult that is aimed at the same spot as the first one. You kill a couple of outer patrols, then lure charrball2--son of charrball out from within the wall, and run like hell back to the second cat. A few will follow and have to be dealt with, but most stop in the death zone to pick the bones of the fallen, and you fire the second cat to make singed furballs of them all. That leaves only the end boss and the mission is done.

IMHO, just use the cats.

The NEXT mission is the one to do creatively (and a lot better mission). Start out plain-vanilla with Prince Rash. After he has a tantrum and refuses to move unless he can go *his* way, and after the bonus mission (where you get to skulk along behind the flame bearers until they unlock the gate). DON'T drop the drawbridge for Sir Lazy. If you do that, Count Coward will be too scared to fight most of the Charr and avoid them, which would be fine, of course, except that to complete the mission you have to guard his back while he opens the exit door, protecting him from, you guessed it, the boatload of Charr he was afraid to fight the first time! Instead, go ahead and kill them all yourself, THEN open the drawbridge for Knight Knucklehead for an un-opposed finish to the mission.

There are rather a lot of Charr, and the first full pulls are a bit tricky, but there is a lot of room to work with. Bring some friends and some rez, though lol

You might say I've spent some time playing around with that mission...

I'll probably be around some tonight, but you night-owls are killing me...

Recommend what Cyrene said about the third mission, been doing that (killing the Charrs before lowering the bridge) whenever I am in that mission since we tried that in beta. Brought back fond memories of gaming with Sirian...

For the forth mission, there is the sneaky way, or the brute force way. Sneaky way is recommended, but I will remember the brute force way I tried with fellow guildies for a good long time. lol

SE: I did that in beta, with careful pulling it's managable.

*pulled lever and saw in horror all red dots in mini map rushing to the gate*

SE: Uh oh... (too dumb stuck to pull the lever again, not sure whether that would work anyway)

Chaos.

But we survived and finished the mission! thumbsup
