The Way of the Civ Player - Ichabod and Wetbandit's PB13 Spoiler Thread

I'm reading, and I find it all very interesting smile Just as a global lurker, not a whole lot I can say for fear of spoilers.

AFAIK there are various info-screens which tell you that. Not only vanity needs to be overcome but also a certain laziness twirl whip wink

Thanks for the support.

What are your 30 turn goals?

That's an interesting question. I think the biggest objective is to have conquered all of Slow's land by that time, but we already talked about that.

I have to think about other objectives that we could have. I think we are in a great position to get the Heroic Epic and the National Epic, so getting them built by that time would be good. The Moai statues too, maybe we can get a gift/loan of stone (like trying to message plako that he stole our stone so he has to loan us for free).

I don't think we can reach any of the first to bonuses of the Medieval Age. We'll be fighting a big war and there are a lot of teams with technological headstarts, due to our period of economic stagnation. I think these bonuses should be treated as secondary reasons to go a certain way, not the primary ones, since we'd have a big chance of losing them. Wonders likely fall in this category too.

I need to think about where to go after Construction. HBR for a better war against Slow? Calendar to hook up our 2 types of Calendar resources? MC for forges?

Great People are also an important thing to think about. I like the idea of an Academy in DP, because it's a city with high commerce potential. But that's not yet certain, we could try for a Philosophy bulb for Taoism.

And this leads to religion. Should we spread Buddhism or try to get our own? Are we confortable with the idea of a long-term planned attack on WLP to get his shrine?

Not a lot of decisions in this answer, but that's because I'm yet to think about all of this. And I need to study RB mod too, to see if that changes things.

I'd say construction sooner is better. Taking Slow's cities sooner will accelerate growth more than 100% science for a few turns.

You know, I could always go back to writing terrible haikus to draw lurker ire attention.

Agreed, construction sooner is better. By the way, construction enables Odeons, which could be decent in cities with high commerce/growth potential, like our Capital and DP.

I just realized that Expansive also gives half cost Grocers... Seriously, we can have gigantic cities with all these health and happy bonuses. That's awesome!

If I recall correctly, the first market of the empire will be whipped this turn in DP (it'll whip a unhappy pop and enable the city to grow again, because it increases the happyness by 2). I'm thinking of getting an Odeon there next, to make the city keep growing.

With a market and an odeon, we can work merchant and artist specialists. So we can use those as future GP, if wanted.

I wanted to get a Market in the Capital, but we can get it all. Capital will get a rax for 5xp units and start working heavily on mines. It can get to 22 hammers working all its mines, which is a decent number, I guess. 2 catapults every 5 turns or a little less than 2 phalanxes/spearmen every 3 turns. Which units benefit more from 5xp? I'm guessing Catapults...

Ah, Agressive now gains half cost stables, so we can take this into account when deciding to go for HBR or not. Easier to get 5xp Jumbos!

Your initial plan for the Capital to be a production powerhouse will be evident and a strong option here. Alternate between 5xp cats and 7xp Jumbos. Since it's only 7xp, maybe a stables is not worth it, at least in BoM.

I think a filler city 3E or so of the capital to work those growing hamlets is a decent option, even though it will be a slow grower. Plus, we have the two +2TRs to absorb initial maintenance which is already reduced by AGG. There's a farm it can pick up initially and then slow build a granary growing on those commerce tiles.

Overview shots including our new city "Stray Geese" and my micro mistake that lead to an unhappy face in DP after the whip (didn't realize that'd happen).

The Wonder table shows the following:

*Plako has TGLh and MoM
*Pindooter has the Pyramids
*dtay has SoZ and TGLib
*Mostly_Harmless has the Colossus. That's a very good thing, since he's not a big power.
*WLP has the ToA
*Commodore has Stonehenge
*Jowy/TBS have the Oracle

That's it...

retep and WLP made peace a few turns ago. Slow made peace with Pindooter (didn't even know they were at war...)

By the way, I keep reading WLP's name as William Lord Parkin...

I logged in last night and saw that WLP declared on retep again. Scooter declared on dtay, but I imagine it's just to move a scouting WB or galley through.

I was getting worried about FinHarry's power growth, which is probably number 1 right now. I thought they were going for our island cities. But by bug-reading the info screen, I managed to find out that they are at war with both suttree and yurimack, so I think we are safe for now. Ah, they bulbed philosophy for Taoism. Interesting play, considering they are spiritual.

dtay seems to be playing a very good game, contrary to what I expected at first. He has a 100 point lead on us and a 60 point lead to Pindicator, the second place. I think he leads in number of cities too. Well, I'm going to take his "West City", that's for sure...
