You can do something about it now!
Btw, what are you thinking of?

Master of Magic must be close to its 20th anniversary now. I'd like to do something for that, get some media attention. I have far too much spare time until mid-December.

Yes...?

Well, just write a web page that summarizes the state of Master of Magic in 2013. What's happened since the game was released, the status of the mods, whatever happened to all those old mods that people might have heard of, etc. Just put everything together in one place. This forum can be kind of hard to read sometimes.

After I do this page I'll find out when MoM was released. Then on that date I'll email a bunch of internet news sites with a press release. "Beloved DOS game is 20 years old, come and check out the bugfixed version", something like that.

At least the download link was fixed, finally. This forum is really bad about dead links. frown

It was released in september 1994. I didnnt find the actual day.

Ill try putting reMOM in beta for the anniversary. No promises tough.

Oh, I second that (if you are talking about insecticide). The documentation is horrible. I am ready to provide detailed information, as much as I can or as I consider sane, to anybody who would consider making a simple web or pdf overview of the changes.
Otherwise, I'm probably too lazy/disinteressed to do it myself. I am not proud of it, but that's the truth, I'm afraid.

Well, hit me with everything you've got, and I'll organize it and publish it.

A post on the forum doesn't seem the right way to collate this information, though. I could start a website but that's always more work than it sounds like. The wiki is great but I don't like that I won't own all my hard work. A document can't hold the downloads I want to include.

I think I'll call it MoM 2014 or 20th anniversary special or something. It'll have a .zip with Insecticide and Plight, and all the manuals. Plus a section with all the other mods.

I haven't got anything conrete at hand, bar my very short and unclear notes, that propably only I can understand. So I have to take it and write down something coherent. Don't expect much details on AI, otherwise I'll try to be eloquent.

I'm thinking of a document that briefly describes the state of 1.31, then tells us the design philosophy of 1.4. Then tell us what changed, then summarize by telling us the effects the changes made. Just how does a 1.40n game "feel" different from a 1.31 game? The audience will be people who played and enjoyed MoM back in the day, but haven't played in forever and are on the fence regarding such an old game and going to all the trouble of setting up DOSbox just to play. We have to convince them to download and install. One of my jobs will be to make this as painless as possible.

i install a separate dosbox for every game that needs it, and setup its dosbox.conf so that it starts the game automatically
mount d d:\games
d:
cd MoM
magic

you could include such a pre-installed dosbox.

Yeah, definitely go with a one-click installation. In the .zip there'll be:

1. Insecticide v1.40n
2. Psyringe's Plight - expanded & corrected help texts
3. Manual & Spellbook
4. DOSbox and .conf file all set up
5. .bat or something for people to click on to start the program
6. Maybe some text files, FAQs and so on.
7. Real-time tweaker
8. Some other variants. MoM 2.0. Not sure which ones to include or how to choose between them. I'm not a coder so I can't write a wrapper program or anything.
9. MoMEdit1.3_v2
10. What else?
