If me I'd be trying harder not to end the scout turn on flatland since animals are appearing after turn 5. It's a trade-off though.

Lucky not to hit an animal on turn 11. I think I would have moved E-SE on turn 12 instead of SE - it would uncover all the same tiles and the scout would be further along.

I don't really know enough about tile reveals to plot a proper course, I wager.
