Just finished that 7-3 Arena run with a Mage deck. I actually played Deathwing in the first three games; the first two times he won me the game, but the third the opposing shaman had enough burst in his hand to kill me before it got an attack off!

In the last game, I had it in hand for pretty much the whole game, and it was always going to be my final insurance policy, when complete disaster struck... my Venture Co. Mercenary got frozen on the turn he had lethal damage, so I couldn't play it! I then played an Azure Drake for 8, topdecked a Cone of Cold... which I didn't quite have enough mana to play, and so I died with Deathwing in hand frown

Arena is certainly more fun than constructed at the moment for me. Constructed is very frustrating, playing with pretty much the same generic basic cards no matter the class. It's mostly the same for the opponents, but still... not as much fun as getting to craft a deck in Arena.

How many hours have you played so far, Terror? lol

Constructed is fun for wacky decks but you do need a decent number of non-base cards to make it interesting. Once the ladder gets better and I get a few legendaries I'll probably try it a bit more seriously.

How many hours haven't I played is a better question tongue

I'm finding some surprising success with the new ranked Constructed (and crushing unranked constructed, of course) despite not having any legendaries or epics and only playing during small breaks when I can catch a bit of free time. I'm already up to rank 14. I'm actually doing better there than in Arena.
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

These daily quests give a pitiful amount of gold. I think I'll probably quit the game soon. At least in games like LoL, you can grind IP to buy stuff. In Hearthstone you get your 40 gold from a daily quest and that's it. I suppose the game is more aimed at the WoW demographic who can keep pouring in a decent amount of money regularly. EDIT: You might get 10 gold for 3 wins.. Unless it's a special one-time thing.

I found that really annoying at first but once I got sorta okay at the game (which was going 4 wins on average in Arena) I found the pace problems with gold generation went away. The gold generation is very slow in constructed though. At least you can do well with base cards so it's not really pay-to-win until the top tiers.

Just did a 10-win run in Arena with my new account (not the one I was borroeing from a friend). Got 285 gold!

Nice Ichabod! By way of comparison, I got 215 gold and a gold Stranglethorn Tiger from my run, which I was pleased with. Also got a golden Spiteful Smith from the pack I won!

Two Arena runs today: Warrior (6-3) and Mage (10-3). I kind of feel like playing Mage in Arena is cheating a little at the moment. It's pretty clearly the best class; Flamestrike and Fireball are a little too strong IMO, and could do with their mana costs being raised.

Another thing about Hearthstone. I'm exhausted having played for the last 2 hours... it really tests your ability to think clearly under pressure in ways I hadn't appreciated from watching. The number of incredibly silly things I've done because I've felt under pressure and had to make a decision quickly is very high, from playing cards in the wrong order, to pinging the wrong thing, to miscounting mana costs. It's very easy to watch streamers do it and pick holes in their play, but when you're under the spotlight like that, the game is a very different animal. Sounds kind of obvious to say, looking at it... but it's true in a way I hadn't expected before I started playing, if that makes sense.

I hear you, Terror. Went 1-3 in my next run. lol No gold gained there. I win when I'm lucky and it's easy to see the obvious play.

Agreed about Mages, though I'm not so good playing them (but I think more then 50% of my losses are against Mages). Playing against Mages you are always on the threat of seeing the table being turned, even if you don't misplay. It's frustrating how many games I have total board control, only to get blasted by 2 fireballs or a pyroblast. Especially when going secong, where sometimes you struggle the whole game to get board control, only to have it cleared by a flamestrike or see yourself get bursted down. I try to avoid getting too low against mages, but that's not an easy thing to do.

I think Paladins are the second strongest, if you get a nice deck (peacekeeper, weapons, argent protectors).
