[Spoilers] Dtay's first PB: When you play a game of CIV, you win or you die

good job on setting up riole. that's a well spec'ed gp pump, and you're using it well. National Wonders set winners apart, keep it up.

if you get lib, you have to figure that one city is the reason why... that's the stuff snowballs are made of! sounds like you read isdg, so you're not getting cocky. I like that too. thumbsup

Yeah, a lot of my thinking on this strategy has been substantially influenced by the isdg. Great game to read btw, I'm sad I didn't really look at it until RB was half run over by the coalition (of the willing?).

That's actually true of most things I do since this is my first non casual mp game. Before this I've just played some with local friends + like 5 ai's and we mess around, so I'm pretty much just regurgitating strategies/techniques I've read about here.

Intra Site Demo Game. The game we just we're eliminate from against CFC, Apolyton, CivPlayers, etc. we built a lead, got dog piled, died.

Notice the tech bar, I'm partially researching machinery. I should be able to 7turn liberalism with 1400 gold, 100% all the way. If my estimate for post-golden age research power was off, i'll have to run some wealth.

Reasoning - TBS is making me nervous, his power is keeping pace with mine and he's in a golden age researching machinery, and I bet guilds is next. While the window would be sub 8 turns, I don't want to be in a situation where I'm fighting off knights and macemen with axes and spears... while my catapult stack would help, just doesn't seem pretty. This lets me get machinery 1t earlier, and lets me 1t complete it in the middle of liberalism if necessary should TBS's power spike.

The garrison in the other city:

The slog through TBS is not going to be pretty. I will have no tech advantage. I could try to wait until curassiers, but I just don't think I have that kind of time with Ichabod expanding and Mackoti being huge. The way I see it I'm going to have 3 advantages in tis war

1) Production - both through drafting and my natural MFG, I can spit out military much faster than TBS can.
2) First Strike - my culture border dominance means I can alpha strike two different cities on the first turn, or alternatively concentrate forces on 1 and TBS can't reinforce in time. I can also set up a fork on the first turn between Modular man and that other city in the east. I also have a great artist in the wings for a culture bomb, which will allow even better first strikes.
3) Lines of reinforcement - you might think this is odd since I'm attacking, but I think I actually have the easier reinforcement situation. TBS has half his empire on a different continent. That means emergency whipped units are going to have trouble getting to the front.

All warplans are extremely rough, but I aim to take both frontline cities on the first 2 turns, either with mounted units on t1 or with catapults and maces are turn 2. After that I will probably converge on the capital. I will also try to have 3-4 galleys full of maces appear on the northern shore on t1 of the war and strike as I can.

Right now all I can do for these things is mass build catapults. Can't have too many catapults. But i'll need to shield them from knights and horse archers. That means ideally pikes, but I'll probably have to settle for (triple promo!) 'phants. Given tech realities.

Anyway, nothing actually really happened on this turn, so here's some overview shots:

Great Person next turn. Fingers crossed for a scientist. If its another artist... ugh rethink everything. I guess research half of education since i still have the head start aiming at liberalism, but it'll slow everything down.

Success:

And I got the time to liberalism out-of-golden-age right too. Success all around.

On a massive university building spree all around

I should have 7 done in 6 turns, then I can start on Oxford. I'll be able to pay someone for stone then hopefully.

You can see the preparations for the Taj here:

All the roaded forrests have been chopped twice. I'll be mine-chopping the hill so I can use it during the Taj build, and workshopping the plan North of South City.

Pretty good MFG/GNP given all the golden ages going on right now:

Mackoti (still presumably, but its obvious...) has a massive food lead though. I hope #2-5 are closer to me than Mackoti...

I think liberalism is extremely likely at this point. No one else I've met even has paper, yet alone education. RB's awesome overflow-waterfall seems a lot harder to pull off in RBMod. There's no BTS-financial for massive GNPs, the tech costs of Education and Liberalism are higher, and this map is just worse fertility wise. And its going to take Team-RB level shenanigans (read: awesome-sauce) to beat me at this point.

Nice!

And, uh, why Patriots all of a sudden? That's totally not as cool as your previous avatar. frown

agreed! tho the scrollwork "by any means necessary" only makes me think of the secret practice-taping scandal of ~2004... not exactly an endorsement of that team!

1) We have a shot at the 1 seed now (thank you Chargers), gotta show support! hammer

2)*2007. Because I find the re appropriation amusing. And the scandal always has been massively overblown. You're allowed to tape the opponents defensive signals (or really anything), it just has to be from an area "enclosed on all sides with a roof overhead" besides the coaches booth. They got in trouble for having a camera in an illegal location, not for the actual act of taping. And the jets (jets of all people) assistant coach who initially accused them/made them stop in early 2007 said it wasn't a big deal and he didn't think the league should get involved.

And none of it involved taping practices. There was an allegation that they taped the Rams walkthrough in 2000, but the dude who claimed to have the tapes turned in the tapes and was lying about their content.

There's a ton of "flags" like this though. Someone decided to make them for every NFL team in the Game of Thrones aesthetic, seen here: http://whatshotdjroomba.minus.com/ . They're pretty awesome, you should check them out.

*Edited for fact correction, said "can't" when it should have been "must"
