Ripples of War - Ichabod's Spoiler Thread for Tides of War Mod

Maybe we should give our friend Saladin a chance since I don't think he has ever been picked before...

I'm still unsure, though. I liked the idea of SPI/PHI, but SPI/IND is also tempting me.

Well, let's wait for the start. Than I resume my indecisiveness.

Well, I'd say that writing that book could be considered a valid use of this word.

Gah! Last in turn order, first to pick, just what I was dreading! Why people want me to think before doing things?!

Should have bribed BRick when I had the chance.

I'll probably pick Saladin. PRO for novelty and power, SPI for fun and to prove that I can deviate from my usual strategies.

Sounds like a good combination. smile

Civ I'll have to wait for pic(k)s. I want a religion, that's for sure.

6 tiles to benefit in 6 turns from Fin (assuming Quick?). 5 if you hate cottaging hills. This is a strong capital for early Bureau, with the corresponding boost that means to Chm, Fin, Exp, Phi. Only one tile boosted by Pro; unless you are Pro, plenty of time to research both Agriculture and AH in good time.

Phi Arabia or Egypt would work for early CS via GPro.

I'm considering moving SW with the settler, if we go for PRO. It gets the worker in 7 turns (considering quick speed), while SIP gets it in 8. Besides, it connects the pig one turn sooner. The Capital will likely be coastal if we do this. Downside is losing cottage tiles and the health from fresh water. If we do this, we need an Agri Civ, perhaps even a Agri/Hunting, to enable AH before the worker (I'm not sure about tech costs, so I can't really make the math).

We have jungle near the pigs. If it spreads, we lose the game before our first worker... Not good...

But I'm not sure about PRO after seeing the start. It won't help the capital much more than old expansive would in terms of how soon we can get the first worker. I studied a AGR/PRO opening that could get an incredibly fast size 5 Capital, but I'm not exactly sure what would be the point of that. We could whip an early settler, but then what? We'd need AH and BW to do it, and we'd likely want Wheel and Pottery too. Do we have enough time to get all these techs before the first settler? And if we don't, why do we care about getting such a fast settler? Any opinions on AGR, Commodore?

Don't we need to have Theology to bulb CS? So we'd bulb with two GPROs?

Bah, I'm really undecided...

I could go for SPI/PHI, EXP/CHA, SPI/IND... And a lot of others...

Ah, we can bulb CS by delaying Masonry, I see it now.

Seriously, I'm considering picking Egypt first and Lincoln second. Getting a very big, early bureau Capital sounds nice. First, getting a quick academy, later a GPRO to bulb CS - hopefully the timings work. We could substitute CHA for anotehr trait, but I'm kind of worried about lack of happiness (I got owned by lack of happiness in PBEM 50).

Input would be appreciated, Commodore-sensei.
