Yeahhhhhh. It's been a while since I've been awfully active so I wasn't sure if it'd be considered spam since it looked like a few PBEMs recently started, but I guess that's the best way to go about it. Off I go.

I am completely new here and came here like others through Sulla's Civ5 critical review Technically Civ5 criticisms -> RBPB2 -> this forum. I have been playing single player Civilization for ages since Civ2 times, through Civ3, Civ4 to Civ5 and back to Civ4... I have also some very limited multiplayer experience. I have been playing Civ4 (and one or two games in Civ5) with my roommate for something like 5 maybe 6 years and played dozens of games. However vast majority of those games were 2 vs 2 vs (...) vs 2 (me and my roommate vs emperor AIs teams) so my experience with playing AGAINST human players is very limited

But to the point. I really would like to fix this last problem and I would be interested in some Civ4 game (Pitboss or maybe PBEM?). Do you have any tips how to start?

Just sign up when someone starts a new game in this sub-forum Some games aren't noob-friendly, but most are. A "greens" game would be the best for new guys. I'd check out some newer games while waiting, we've come a long way since the PB2 days. Welcome and HF! Oh, and shameless plug, if you liked the diplo aspect of those older games, check out The Gaming Table sub-forum for mafia / werewolf games. We're starting a new one next week.

Yup! New game threads tend to show up in Civ General Discussion. You might consider signing up with a teammate - it's easier to get the hang of things if you have someone to discuss things with.

Heck, you can go to the general forum and click the "new thread" button near the top-right. There's actually lots of new blood around about now, so you'd probably get some folks interested.

I'd recommend picking a game or two to dedlurk while you get ready for your first game. PB17 just started, many players would be eager for a follower there. So pick a thread at random and dig in
