[SPOILERS] The Rise of Lewger: A BacoN of Bacon Revenge (bacOn bAcoNbAcon) Bacon

ok smile same old crew. But I suspect there are more players than lurkers in this game. In any case it looks like a 24 hour delay. commodore is asking for a replay, both me and Azza seem to have a narrow window during the week and Azza can't play until after the reload.

Extra for me since I know even more spoiler knowledge.

One of the downsides of these huge pitbosses is that most of the diehards can't lurk cuz they're playing.

I'm interested in your reports as well. smile

I'm afraid Civ has too much micro for my taste. My patience for that sort of thing has diminished over time. I suspect it's more interesting to watch than fun to play. wink

Definitely reading, Bigger, and starting to get interested again now that I have half a clue what's going on.

For a spammy derail (Bigger, tell me if you mind) - any idea how SotS 2 turned out? Should I consider it, or just go back to SotS?

SotS2 is a quite different game from SotS1 in a lot of ways. It's also good (now that it's received a lot of support since release) but its strengths are different from prime. It has a lot more detailed game systems to explore and verisimilitude in how empires and fleet operations are managed. The latter slows conquest down to realistic limits -- SotS2 games tend to be considerably slower-paced than SotS1 games, all things considered -- but enhances strategic depth compared to prime. The tactical combat is both visually quite appealing and offers a lot of opportunity for tactics to come to the fore, again moreso than prime.

There are natural consequences to all this extra complexity. The game AI is able to put up a fight against a rookie player, but a master will find the AI even less challenging than the SotS1 AI. Moreover, the AI is not as able to understand many of the nuances of even basic game systems, which leaves open many questions of whether certain in-game actions could be considered exploits. In SotS1, such exploits were relatively well-understood and easy to avoid, but in SotS2 they are much less clear-cut and avoidable.

The best solution to this is to play SotS2 against other players, once you are familiar enough with the basics to feel comfortable doing so. This allows the game's best strengths to shine and renders many of the above issues moot. It's worth noting that there is a small but active SotS2 MP community that is open to new participants.

Nice, Zed. Since this pit boss is delayed while we wait on sunrise to reload, let's do game reviews. Brick, how do you think of EU4 compares to EU3 that you've had 5 months to play it?
