RB PBEM #1 - Mehmed (SPOILERS!)

t140 - NAP expires this turn....

Bursa: Machine Gun - Machine Gun
Konya: Ironclad - Ironclad

Pretty slow turn; units moving, Workers building Railways, and I promote another Jann to Rifle. Ruff has Constitution, so I request it and propose another map trade. I will be starting Corporation next turn, currently at -161gpt for 100% Science. Have 66g in the bank, so time to look at EPs again:

With 600EPs, I have visibility on many of mh's cities but not all. Looks like about 70 more should allow me to see them all. 10% EPs gives me 65, at +187g, or 20% gives me 102EPs @ +148g ... think I'll just stick with 10% and pick up the remaining city visibility with my base build-up.

t141 - not at war yet!

Samsun: Cannon - Cannon
Diyarbakir: Conf. Missionary - Courthouse
Kayseri: Conf. Monastery - Forge

Ruff has supplied Constitution, so I start Corporation: 3t @100% & -167gpt.

Istanbul popped a Prophet, so I can kick off a Golden Age. OK, Corp now in 2t and definitely time to review my Civics. Mercantilism is a no-brainer since everyone else is already, and if I'm going to Merc then Representation seems like a good idea. Also, since I'm not at War at the moment, it makes sense to switch out of Nationhood. Rather than Bureau though I think a stint in Free Speech will be just what is needed to deal with the culture issue on the Western Border. I think that I'll stick in Slavery and Theocracy for the moment though. Oh, and before switching I'll run a Draft this turn: Konya, Gaziantep & Kufah.

Right, revolted and time to review the free Specialists. Expenses now up to 178gpt, but will get ~3/5 of Corp this turn.

t142 - AP vote coming in ... vote for myself.

Bursa: Machine Gun - Forge
Konya: Ironclad - Drydock
Gaziantep: Cavalry - Library
Sarmatian: Library - Cavalry
Kufah: Barracks - Forge

Hmmmm, looks like I forgot to request enough gold from Ruff last turn since my expenses went up from changing civics. Ah well, I can dial down to 50% and still finish Corp this turn.

Spread Conf in Najran - wonder if that changes the tallied votes?

Hmmm, mh has produced his first Ironclad in Mainz. I move a Spy to sit on his Coal and consider when might be a good opportunity to sever his supplies.

The Grat Southern Railway is completed and now links Bursa (via Samsun) to Baghdad, with the New Damascus line under construction. That means that I ca relocate the bulk of my Cavalry reserves to the region between Kufah and Samsun, where they will be available to either front within 2t. Unfortunately, they cannot be positioned so as to reach both in just one turn, so I put half within 1t of Bursa, and the other half within 1t of New Damascus.

The application of Free Speech Culture at New Damascus is working well; third ring will pop at the end of turn, and I expect to claim the hill immediately North of the city next turn ... with the flatland to the West following shortly.

'couple of e-mails between Ruff and myself discussing the way forward:
Quote:Ruff,

After what you said in public I decided to Vote for myself, Ha!

Anyway, I didn't ask for enough gold last turn apparently, but I can still finish Corp. this turn. It looks like AssLine is going to take around 5 GA turns, and I think that with the gold I now have stored plus what you make per turn, I can keep at 100% for the duration. Where next after that; do we want to go for Physics, Combustion - Flight?

Dreylin.
Quote:Dreylin,

If TOG are still around and a threat in 10 turns (they probably will be), then I would push on for either tanks or bombers. Biology would certainly help as some of my cities have hit size caps.

BTW - what are we doing once TOG is gone ... do we call it quits or are we going to start tilting at each other?

Ruff
Quote:Ruff,

Well Tanks require Electricity - which is through Physics - and Bombers need Radio - also through Physics - so I would suggest Astro (I grab for island), SciMeth, Physics. That gets us Airships; then we see where things stand whether we go Elec - Ind for Tanks & Factories, or Combustion - Flight for Fighters. Communism is a decent pick-up for the GSpy, and if we did go Flight then Fascism for Paratroopers could do wonders for you against sooooo.

BTW, if for some reason mh declares on me before you and sooooo go at it; I'm due a GG in very few turns. I could send him over for your super-Medic Chariot in return for your sending your first over my way.

Re: after-TOG; I suspect that the lurkers would be disappointed if we just came to an amicable agreement without at least throwing our armies at each other for a while.... 9-)

You got that right!

t143 - wow, a war without me in it ... can't be right!?

Ruff takes Corp; Assembly Line due in 5t if we can maintain supply the gold.

Oxford completes in Istanbul - Conf Temple.
Samsun: Cannon - Cannon
Gaziantep: Library - Stable
Diyarbakir: Courthouse - Cannon
New Damascus: Conf. Monastery - Courthouse
Najran: Granary - Levee

Missionary fails to spread Conf to Mecca. frown Sub a Missionary build in for Diyarbakir's Cannon.

New Damasus has claimed the hill 1N of the city and is up to 55/44 on the flatland NW. While reviewin mh's forces I decide that I need a couple more Spies, so I substitute one into Gaziantep.

Whip Forge into Kayseri (2Pop).

Guess all the fun's going on next door....

t144 - Cr@p, another Spy caught ... looks like the one that was sitting on mh's Coal supply.

Bursa: Forge - Machine Gun
Konya: Drydock - Ironclad
Samsun: Cannon - Cannon
Gaziantep: Spy - Spy
Diyarbakir: Conf. Missionary - Spy
Sarmatian: Cavalry - Machine Gun
Kayseri: Forge - Lighthouse

Whoops, skip past the election results without looking ... will load up the turn again once it's finished to have a look.

Really boring turn here, sorry everyone - move along nothing to see here!

OK, well the Railway link has almost finished all the cities bar Najran; next turn Workes will start to move off to work on the new cities and railroad all the Mines for extra Hammers. It looks like mh has also moved off of unit production and is concentrating on teching ... judging from the one city I can look into (Strassburg) he's maximising research by hiring Scientists with every spare food. Probably once Assembly Line is in, I will have to give him some sort of distraction.... devil

Oh, and the elections were 270 for me (guess that spread did help), 152 for Ruff, and TOG both abstained.

Any chance of sneaking in an AP win? What are the mechanics, can you win by your own votes only?

I don't think that the Diplo victory option comes up if any one person has sufficient votes to win on their own. As Ruff said in the main thread, the only way for either of us to win would be if one of us voted for the other. We have discussed it as a way for us to "win" the game, but it's a bit cheesy and would definitely disappoint all you guys watching, right?

I would be disappointed with the one who voted for the other, that's for sure. If you can convince someone to hand you a win, however...
