You'll want to have that figured out before the turn rolls - we finished Education and are teching Alphabet this turn.
I think we're going to upgrade our galleys regardless what order - we may just wait to do it later. And we can still build caravels early, they still can defend against galleons in numbers

In fairness, us using using mass caravels in PB8 against a galleon invasion force from a player with no known naval experience up to that point against humans (slowcheetah) is pretty different than doing it against a player who seemingly never loses to anyone (mackoti). Absolutely 0 disrespect intended to slowcheetah either, 95% of players on this site including myself look overmatched compared to mackoti.
That said, I think we're good to wait and just get PP now as planned. Just know that I think we need to be watching for warning signs. Hmm, maybe we can squeak out a caravel now to kinda sentry the water between us as a stopgap solution? Perhaps I'm being overly paranoid here.

You guys invented Paranoia Island (if not the name) in PB8. Is there such a thing as too paranoid?

Why wouldn't caravels work? The big draw against them in defending with numbers is their limited mobility. And yes, slowcheetah walked right into the teeth of our defense when he should have danced around the edges until we were caught out of position (Commodore did this quite well latrr). But we are Vikings here- our caravels will have more move than his Galleons! As long as we have numbers then we'll be fine.
If you want to delay PP for Optics.i'd be okay with that. So a few coastal cities don't get infra, not a huge sacrifice

Just because you need a crapton of them to mount a valid defense, and I'd rather not invest heavily in Caravels this close to Astro. Anyway, I'm talking in circles, I'm good with staying the course. I just wanted to talk out his options, but I think we're fine to stay the course.

If only you'd whipped up silky warriors in PB8. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have been as destructive. :P
