WW 31 Game Thread PARANOIA

Ichabod, if your first reaction as a town was that Old Harry must be scum, how come it couldn't have been another town player's reaction? I get your point about Old Harry being an easy target as a new player, and I agree with that, but I don't quite understand why you find Catwalk scummy, when you just told us that you agreed with Catwalk before you thought more about it. At least to me Catwalk seems like the person who would pursue a case against a new player without factoring in the circumstances.

Beloved Tyrant, that's just how Catwalk plays - he spams, Mattimeo lurks and Serdoa writes screeds and screeds. That's no reason his play can't be scummy, but the fact that he is this active isn't a tell in and of itself.

For the Flea-ridden feline, yes active scum hunting day 1 *can* be a tell, but the reason he's taking it that way is because you constructed a case on a player he considered that scum would be likely to to after, not that you were scum hunting at all.

As it seems some of you try to guess why the fake-account voted for Azarius, it is quite easy: novice wrote that he doesn't like parrots (=he doesn't like when players follow others players in their vote without giving reason) and then he voted Azarius. The fake account then quoted that part of his post without the vote and voted Azarius as well. Or for the slow-ones: It is a joke.

(And honestly I think it was a pretty obvious one...)

The limiting of your options is only true if you have an active role. The nightkill itself can be done from any of them given their role-PM so if you are scum it is questionable if you limited your options at all. And even if you have an active role it might be one that isn't necessarily best used N1, so again it might not limit you at all and actually might even be better for you to get followed now than later.

And that's not even taking into account reverse psychology, as in: If I tell him to follow me chances are high that he won't because he believes that I would never do that as scum. Or role-blockers on the scum-side.

Quite honestly, that doesn't seem very thought-through imo.

It very well could be another town player's reaction. In this case, I think there's a chance it is a wolf formulating an easy case.

Notice that Old Harry made the first "easy to suspect" post. It's easier as scum to go for this posts when making cases, because they have no straws to grasp at.

Ichabod, what do you mean by "no straws to grasp at"? Because the scum would know who the scum were already? Wouldn't that just free them to say whatever they want instead of having to grasp at straws to begin with? Sorry for all the questions. Or if it's normal to question people all the time in WW, in that case I'm not sorry. lol

So, serious question-


If I'm understanding the rules correctly, we have the option of simply doing nothing this day cycle. Normally this wouldn't be ideal- besides being kind of boring, we'd pass up the opportunity to lynch a scum (albeit generally with much better odds to off a villager accidentally), and then suffer a death during the night cycle. But the commie wolves here can't actually kill anyone during the night (again, if my understanding of the rules is correct)- they can only remove a clone. Which, provided our vig(s) don't fire any shots, essentially gives us a free almost-certain villager, who our baner or whatever can protect (assuming we have one, which we probably do with this many players). Even if we don't have a baner to keep the villager alive on subsequent nights (or the baner has other plans), it still makes voting the next day a little bit safer, assuming we decide to lynch someone then. The wolves could also refuse to attack anyone in the night, but then they'd be prey for whatever seer-types we have lying around and eventually succumb to attrition.


It's not a perfect strategy since I can think of a couple ways the wolves could get around it, like if they had a permadeath weapon or power, but it might be a viable course of action if we can't come up with anyone reasonable to lynch by the end of this day cycle (or other cycles later in the game, if we don't have multiple people getting wounded in the night).



Oh also unvote, since I really did literally roll a D20 before as a joke.

Grasping at straws is the main form of creating content in WW, as I see it - it's understandable, there's hardly any reliable information to base your thoughts on. You'd be surprised to see how difficult it's to create content when you are supposedly "free to say whatever you want". Well, maybe you are noticing this now, right?

Now that you mention this, I hardly doubt that BRick would make things work that way. Not to go into meta, but one confirmed villager per day seems really bad (well, you could argue that the wolves can play around it, maybe killing one of their own clones). I'm guessing we won't get reports of the death of clones...

Anyway, not really worth arguing my assumptions, since we are bound to find out about how things work in a day.

Ok, finally caught up after Safety Day, lunch, and a bit of a personnel fire. The figurative fire was ironic on Safety Day.

Reading everything it seems mostly the same Day 1 forced analysis I find the least fun part of the game. The Old Harry page 7 (default) post jumped out at me the most while reading and then re-reading it, and several others have criticized it, but I don't want to add a vote since as Ichabod says above it's easy for people to jump onto a low hanging bandwagon.

I'm going to vote MJW for now over

My only other thought is we have three Bonus Role people with useful 'active abilities.' - Merovech who locks down someone else at night, Old Harry who follows someone, and then Serdoa who gives items. Does anyone have experience with public active abilities like this? Is the best strategy, at least early, to just select secretly?
