Turn 158

So the good news stated in the tech report is that mackoti is not bee-lining astronomy. He picked up Engineering last, which means he could just be backfilling techs (and then goign to Astro), but either way I think we stay on course for our PP bulb. And speaking of which, take a look at what we got at the end of last turn:

With alphabet I offered open borders and world map trades with everybody below plako. I was unsure about offering to our neighbors on this continent, but with how Azza is whipping I don't see any need to fear Lewwyn for the time being. So that just leaves Commodore, who's in a war with WilliamLP, and who we need to watch his power graph a little more closely to be honest. But Black Sword was in game and accepted right away; hopefully the high pop cities will help us out some more.

I figured this was a good turn to show the cities that are building universities for our Oxford push:

Colts needs a few things to happen, but it will reach the goal in time. 1. There's a missionary en route from Bulldogs, which will spread Confucianism next turn (it'd really suck to have another religion autospread on the IT); and 2. The forest N-NW of the city needs to be chopped. We have two workers nearby, so that will happen on time.

I really do love this city smile Next turn the last grassland workshop finishes and the hpt gets even higher.

The workshop E-NE of the city just finished, and next turn that worker will move to the 3rd ring forest for a chop. Those 24h will get us the university in time.

Right on target.

Also right on target.

Red Wings still needs a little micro help to get done on time. In a turn or two we'll have to take a workshop from Orioles (poor Orioles is getting a lot of it's hammer-tiles taken for this Oxford adventure), but we only need it for 2 turns. The city will get really close to starving, but there should be 4 food in the box when the university is done.

Also, check out our new great person! I did not bulb him, because we couldn't 1-turn Printing Press. Next turn we'll have a few more pop, a few more beakers, and we should be able to finish Printing Press after the bulb.

[Image: pb13%20-%20turn158%20-%20trailblazers.JPG]

Trailblazers beat the Spurs in San Antonio last night, which while that caused all kinds of excitement for me it has nothing to do with the game. We have finished the workshop W-NW of the city (as seen in Red Wing's screenshot), and now we're cottaging the first of the last two plains tiles.

In other news, we settled our 26th city:

Anybody have recommendations for a new city name? We have a settler en route to PAC South and finish another settler out of Valiants at end of the turn

I assume you've calculated the optimal turn to bulb...max pop but asap such that we can complete it at the end of that turn? Are you sure we can't run a higher slider to get PP sooner with the bulb?

Pac South: Utah! You need a scrappy underdog for this currently isolated city... but really anything is good except USC

Yeah, I took a look at that. But it makes a good post to show it out smile

Printing Press costs 3220 total. We'll bulb 2160 of it this turn (side note: we're up to 220 pop!). That leaves us with needing to get 1060 through tech.

If I calculated the known civ bonus right, then we're going to be getting 1.24x to our beakers going into Printing Press this turn. So in order to get 1060, we need for that beaker total on the left to read +854 beakers. Right now, 100% science costs us 345g and only gets +775b. So we could bulb this turn, we would need to generate 148g and 79b through specialists and Wealth/Research builds.

Just to see if we could get close, I took all the cities not tied up with Oxford, and threw in the capital because I think I can still get the right amount of overflow even on 2t to prepare. I came up with 198 gold/beakers that can be generated if we switch all our cities over to Wealth/Research builds. That would put us 29b short, or about 5 scientist specialists. I'm sure there are 5 food-only tiles that can be turned into a specialist for one turn.

So yeah, we can do it. But is it worth it to?

What do you say, scooter? It'd be giving up a turn of production everywhere to gain an extra 35c. Probably translates into an extra 50 beakers at best. I don't think that's worth giving up all that hammer and food, but if you're seeing something I'm not then let me know.

Also, teammates, we need to do something about our northern border:

Bills is getting a Library build next turn. I could switch Pirates to one this turn -- it'd be a 6-turn build. That's probably better, and have the missionary get to Bills from another city.

Purdue fan? smile

Azza isn't going to hold up as well as he did in pb8. 2 cities fell to Lewwyn this turn. Ouch

Absolutely. Although I have to cheer for them in Civ, because there's no hope for the football team frown.

I have a worse team name than Valiants to go on the island spot next to Valiants: Ottawa is re-entering the CFL this year as the RedBlacks. Seriously?!? cringe Apparently so. banghead

Assuming that's still the plan for the next Valiants settler, of course. lol
