thats a good question I hadn't thought of yet. I have a couple in mind, just from memory, but none are spectacular.
I'm also not really happy w/ my choice for heroic epic - more of a "well there's nothing better." But maybe I'm spoiled - our pb8 HE was good, and my pb9 HE was probably the best I've ever had.
anyway I don't anticipate any combat on the next turn, should be straightforward, so I'll take the time to take some pics and present options for both. I'll have LIT at the end of this turn and HE will be unlocked with the medic 3, so its time to make a decision on both, I suppose.
close to wrapping up the southern campaign as well, so we'll need a plan for moving west. that when the *real* slug will start .

HE should already be unlocked with our Woody3 axe.

year 1000 turn report in 3 parts. last 2 are just for Lewwyn. First, regular turn report:
![[Image: NBxK4o3.png]](http://i.imgur.com/NBxK4o3.png)
this didn't go well. I took the 77% odds to kill his galley, then protect it against his unpromoted galley with my unpromoted galley and lost. well couldn't have a C2 galley so I finished it off with my galley, which survived w/ only 0.6% health (it was 98% odds). I did manage to drop off another spear to the island but my galley is toast. luckily in two turns I'll have another trieme and can keep spitting them out every 2 turns until i take control of these strights (azza's naval production has to be pretty far away from the battle zone, so no worries) - then i can pop out a galley or two to replace the soon to be dead one. I have 5 units on the island (mace, axe, spear, 2 knights) so I don't have to worry about him getting astrid back.
![[Image: BAbFWlk.png]](http://i.imgur.com/BAbFWlk.png)
no whip on craig, but that worries me. it went to size 5 when the turn rolled, so I'm pretty sure I'll see a whip here. anything but a pike is no problem, but if its a pike and I advance then he could potentially take out both knights before I could retreat .
I'm not sure, but if he whips I think I have to retreat until I can come back w/ the mace and/or axe.
damnt. mace takes 3 turns to heal, and I left the axe on the unroaded hill to defend the spear, which I'm just realizing was a big mistake, ugh.
![[Image: bH6U1Zk.png]](http://i.imgur.com/bH6U1Zk.png)
easy breeze here. he whipped a longbow, so next turn I'll face a chariot and 2 longbows with 20% odds. I have 3 cats, 3 maces, a cho-ku, and a knight. knight is only if desperate, as I intend it to blitz through and raze the last city over there, adelaide, the next turn (only defended by warrior, plus hopefully a free worker if he doesnt delete it this turn). note that azza passed on my little mini trap to slaughter the spear and 2 axes with knights
![[Image: upHTRvc.png]](http://i.imgur.com/upHTRvc.png)
moved this stack here for flexibility. if azza does strike at bacon!, he'll have to land on the farm with the sign that says "farm?," and I can hit him with 3 cats, then the rest of this stack, plus 3 knights still in bac0n. I would *love* for him to do that, but of course he won't
I apparently don't have a picture of his capital, but next turn we need to start planning an assault on it, if possible, or else consider peace options. He migh accept a demand of sarah ann, but im not sure what else we could get out of him he might just be in grudge mode.

I still have a surprise maneuver in store for him . in 2 turns with adeleide razed this will be Azza's only source of iron. I whipped an elephant in baconator this turn, and it also has a mace coming from the east that ended its turn there. both will head this direction, through scooters territory. they are going to be joined by some C2 knights - my main 2 knight pumps have stables now (BACON and bacon). im going to stage on the tile NE of raiders, then dump them onto the iron and pillage it with the knights. there are currently 3 unpromoted knights and 3 horse archers in donna, plus this spear and 2 axes that can hit the stack. no pikes from donna and no units at all from the capital can reach. ill have a mace, elephant, 2 C2 knights and 1 unpromoted knight there, and I'll try to get a pike if I can. if he moves more, or any pikes in position ill retreat.
that will stop him for awhile from building knights, crossbows, or pikes. of course he can still build maces (2 copper sources that I have no hope of disconnecting) and unfortunately his most dangerous unit - the catapult. most of the recent whips have been cats, I'm afraid.
for those who thought we might still be in contention:
after the turn roll mackoti, dtay, and ichabod all came down from a golden age however, and it is slightly less scary:
judging on how far ahead of us they are on the graphs, I'd put scooter at around 800-850 GNP. #1 is almost certainly mackoti, although it could possibly be dtay.

ok Lewwyn, first Heroic Epic, because its easier:
this was my original choice (currently spitting out navy)
But I've changed my mind, this is better:
more hammers, no unnecessary library or cottages, and I have stable in place already.
Unfortunately only other option I see is the capital, which is yuck for HE. I *hate* building it on the coast but unfortunately you filled all the interior cities with filthy cottages, which are mostly villages and towns now.
I think I'll build it in bacon after a few more knights

NE is tougher. more options, none of them ideal.
![[Image: WWhTkeC.png]](http://i.imgur.com/WWhTkeC.png)
first one that came to mind. food, but very little infastructure, so it will take a long time. I will have a missionary in 5 turns.
![[Image: BEio20v.png]](http://i.imgur.com/BEio20v.png)
not bad, can turn the workshops into farms once everything necessary is built. can take over the rice and turn 2 of the cottages over to another city, but will still needto work the rest and the gems.
![[Image: ouRpDE3.png]](http://i.imgur.com/ouRpDE3.png) \
on the island. dropped off 2 workers last turn so I can develop this quickly. needs library, market, HE tho.
also dangerous putting it on island - scooter can probably take the island easy if he decides its worth the war.

one less grassland farm available, but slightly safer and and no barracks in place.
![[Image: wLTjeE5.png]](http://i.imgur.com/wLTjeE5.png)
possible if we take the other seafood, but i'd rather leave that with baconbacon

maybe the best pure HE city, but with many downsides. the biggest being I don't own the city yet. also would have to wait to get a third city planted NE of it, then irrigate down from the little lake. should still have 3 forests in place to make thing easier.
over all im thinking baconbaconbacon, baconflank, and baconrib are our best options. what do you think?

Agree about bacon as HE city. Especially if its Moai+HE. Can we trade for stone?

what do you think about NE?
maybe, I'll check. but I'm more concerned about marble, HE + NE need to be built in a timely manner, moai can wait.

dtay and william lp both have (2) marbles, presumbly could spare one. no one has more than one stone, that we've met anyway (we haven't made contact yet with jowy, suttree, or dhal).
plenty of people have singles of either and maybe will persuaded to trade it. Azza has stone, haha.
I'll shop around for marble next turn, can't be bothered tonight, and it will be 4 turns or so before I start HE. do need to make a decision on NE in that time frame as well.
Turn report coming soon.

well this didn't take too long. Just a week of turns and I'm really getting into this game. I've discovered I like challenging situations. First the disaster that was PB9 France when I took over, then this (much less of a disaster, but w/ the competition much less of a chance I'll win. Still a lot of fun though).
![[Image: mNiMzWU.png]](http://i.imgur.com/mNiMzWU.png)
easy. lost one cat, used other 2 to bombard defenses. then lost the cho-ku on coin flip, but won with all 3 maces to take the city. He didn't spite-whip here so it was a nice size 3 .
![[Image: zIo9ns7.png]](http://i.imgur.com/zIo9ns7.png)
got a free worker! pretty sure Azza expected another turn to delete the fellow. or he expected a miracle. only a warrior defending, so unless he's been slow building a longbow for 15 turns adelaide will be razed next turn. Good thing, I don't have to decide if its worth keeping since it will auto-raze .
![[Image: xxJV4AO.png]](http://i.imgur.com/xxJV4AO.png)
this made me so happy. I fully expected a whip here, and pretty much decided today i would have to back off w/ the knights and wait 1 more turn for the axe, then go back in (expecting a pike, which would be a disaster to the knights). but no whip! so Craig falls next turn as well, finishing off the southern campaign and a good 30-40% of azza's pre-war lands. unfortunately I discovered a hiddn galley, which should save the worker and probably HA too. maybe he will forget to cancel the workers action before it completes its turn on the cottage and I will be able to nab it <G>. It does seem like Azza is in full turtle mode and isn't thinking too much about his turns.
I finish paper at EOT and next turn get to see how much overflow I've managed to dump into Printing Press on my final 100% tech turn.
Next turn I will finally start exploiting spiritual - doing a final round of whipping then revolting to caste and hereditary rule. caste only for 5 turns or until we need to whip again, but we have enough workshops up now that it will be beneficial.
That concludes current events. Give me a minute to take more pictures and I'll discuss strategy. (lurkers should feel grateful I'm not as paranoid as Lewwyn is).
