Turn 162 prologue
Info about Suttree's force disposition.
I'm going to check the sim. But it looks like we might be able to kill his stack if it keeps moving SW...

He's got one more cat than I was simming with. The C1 promos on the axes mean we use shock to attack cats until they've all been knocked down from 5.0 health. Then he's left with 5, 6 or 3 cats at the end. I'll be happy with that.
I'll move how we agreed.

Turn 162 main course
We're moving in, but its all a fake - we really want to hit the cat stack. Just hoping they move in closer. What should we do if he doesn't move it closer?
Power:
Last turn Mack switched to Theocracy and must have finished a bunch of Janissaries, but he's in Caste and so I don't think he'll build a bunch more very quickly. We have peace to eot165, what do you guys think Mack will do - do we need to reinforce Peterloo? It has three spears, two longbows and a bowman right now. We can have four knights, a mace and two catapults in Peterloo by t165 and we could add walls to the city or whip a couple more longbows too by then if needed. He's also not far from Astronomy, so we need to get units into our coastal cities (both coasts)...

Not sure about Peterloo. About coastal cities, the simple solution is for every coastal city to whip its own defender(s).

Had a quick look around our civ and it looks good. I mean, it looks good as long as we forget our geopolitical situation etc.
Some domestic comments:
- Economics will be awesome, if I understand the mechanics correctly. Free market should bring us ~100 commerce altogether. At least 54 through new routes and 37 throught that +25 % bonus (we have currently one 8 commerce route and 35 routes worth 4-7 commerce)
- We should switch out of Pacifism, we are paying 70 gold - handicap reduction just for unit costs and we don't run that many specialists. Whether simply Paganism or OR is better depends whether we are going to build infra.. Buro vs. Vassalage is also of course dependant whether we need those extra promos, pure economically Buro is clearly better.
- Will we soon be in caste again? Our workshops are longing for it, or are we afraid of mack/someone else attacking us and we need the safety from whip?
- Jamestown is probably building wealth only temporirarily. I would love to see the city building couple of ships so that we could consider opportunistic attacks towards suttree's most eastern city and TBSJ's island.
Macro comments:
- plako does have a decent amount of WW and his power drop couple of turns ago was significant (not huge though). No idea if Dhal is playing awesome or bad, but at least he is doing what m_h and Nakor should have done. Too bad for plako of course. His position is very pleasent with only Dhalphir as a close neighhbor and in another game that might be even enough for win. This time mack and scoopinhelium just got too much too easily.
- Lewwyn has surprisingly little WW. How many cities has he taken from Azza? I imagined that Azza would put up a decent defence, but now I checked civstats and see that he also plays ~6 minutes per turn..
- Meanwhile suttree spent 1 hour with his last turn
Have you missed my rants?
I have to say that I expected more from this group of players. What Nakor did was just despiteful, m_h also just willingly tossed the game and without knowing much of the situation Azza does not seem to put up much of an effort. I'm still a bit pissed off that suttree whipped his civ to ground just that he could revenge us, but that's still thousand times more sporting than what Nakor did. It just seems so wasteful to spend so much time with a game and then see something this lame.. The map was supposed to be unbalanced and we have a diverse group of players, that's cool, but I guess I just had too high expectations regarding how people play out these games once they realize how weak their position is.

I think you might even be slightly underestimating the benefit of the 25%, I couldn't work out if it applies to individual trade routes or to all the routes added together (not that it really matters since we seem to get 4gpt routes everywhere).
On the civic switches I was planning to switch back to caste three turns ago, but that would have delayed Free Market by a turn so I didn't!
Changes I'd like to see:
Hereditary Rule + Bureaucracy + Caste System + Free Market + Organised Religion
- We don't need HR, but it's the same price as Despotism.
- Bureau lets us get our University in the capital quick (although it could wait another five turns until other unis have been built and we need to start Oxford) and gives us a bit of a commerce boost.
- We've whipped moderately hard for the last eight turns, so we're crying out for Caste for a while at least.
- FM
- OR will let us get our other Universities up quicker. We're a while away from producing the great person we need to start the next GA - Cannae and Om are both on the job, but have been running slower than I'd hoped because we didn't switch back to Caste sooner.
I've got to go out now, so I'll try and play the turn in the morning if you're around. As long as someone remembers to pause...

Yeah, not sure how free market works, I just got the impression that +25 % bonus starts creating benefits as soon as one has 4-commerce trade routes, and as you said, we have lot of them so FM will be gooooood..
I agree with the civic combo, and also agree that growing our cities a bit (not whipping) would be nice. Although since I don't yet have a feel about our military needs (sim results, threats, further plans if attack succeeds) I don't complain if you say that e.g. Vassalage or Slavery is a necessity.
I'll be at the university in the morning, but probably have time for a chat so let's see if we can make it happen. If not, it's not a catastrophe, I trust that you and THH have considered all the angles related to the invasion
So how did our GP plan actually turn out? I need to re-read the last posts..
We got scientists in Agi (and used it for a Edu-bulb)
We got low-odds artist in König (will use it for a 2nd GA)
We got merchant in Agi (ran a trade mission)
Did we got another merchant from Omdurman (did we run 2 missions yet?)??

I'd suggest observing Azza's score decreases for whips, more than Lewger's WW or the amount of time Azza takes to play.

(I'd prefer to stay in Slavery due to the threat of mackoti intervening while we're at war with suttree, but that's just me.)
So are you back now Fintourist? You mentioned being at the university - I think that means in Finland? If so, welcome home! (Er, I guess that doesn't make much sense since I live on a different continent, but you know what I mean.)
