I've written about this before I'm pretty sure, I just don't remember where. If you'd read all my threads you would already know.

I looked up barb mechanics. I knew this before but I'd forgotten the details.
Barbs are spawned for each landmass individually. The game will spawn barbs up to a max of one barb per 50 (on prince) unowned tiles on the landmass. This is why islands (smaller than 50 tiles) won't get barbs. (The big island we want to settle on is less than 50 tiles, btw.)
I just now counted the number of unowned land tiles on our home continent, after settling the sheep/clam spot this turn, and it's 204. That's four barbs. Settling one more city on the continent will bring it down to 3 barbs. Plans are underway to do this. There is a settler being whipped in MM next turn that can settle between the cows and capital copper 2t later.
At other difficulties, unowned land tiles per barb unit:
Noble: 60
Prince: 50
Monarch: 40
Emperor: 35
Immortal: 30
Deity: 25
Also: how many barbs spawn per turn on a landmass? It's one, plus one more for every four missing units. So if a landmass supports 20 barbs, and there are currently 4 on it, then there are 16 missing, so 1+4=5 will be created.

That explains why you get a bunch of barbs the first turn they can spawn. Cool!

* Hashoosh got (and connected) another city. Yay!
* I thought the galley could reach the island in two moves, but what I thought was the northernmost land tile of the island is actually just water. Oh well, nothing we could do differently. Workers are taking a slightly longer route to the coast, involving a road build. (I'm planning to shuttle over 2 on a galley ASAP.)
* Other plans proceeding apace.
* The barb spear near GP moved next to the city on an unimportant tile, so I just parked our axe in the city (along with another body) rather than attack it. Might as well get the extra defense since it was only a 1xp fight anyway, and also, might as well play to keep that spear alive as long as possible to delay the next barb unit.
* Spotted a barb warrior in the south. Yay!

Gonna try to stream t86 in half an hour.

If anyone stops by that would be great. Questions would be nice, and volume checking help would be really useful.

My window I could play the turn in passed, I had a busy day, and I played late this evening while not feeling up to figuring out the streaming stuff. So here is a typical report, which I'm sure many prefer anyway.
t86:
Looking good right now. Next turn we're founding two more cities and finishing currency. GNP is still low of course. Cities are expensive!
Well well well.
And here's Night Watch, settled t84 as mentioned previously without pictures. Going to chop 2 outside-culture forests to accelerate the workboat and granary. They are worth 20h each.
On t88, we will be able to cancel the ivory for horse deal. I'm not sure yet exactly how I want to handle that. Honestly, Hashoosh surprised me by accepting that deal, since temporary luxuries aren't that strong. So maybe he thought it's semi-permanent? I don't know. Ideally it goes like this:
1) We cancel the resource deal.
2) Hashoosh requests 1 gpt.
3) We grant the request and additionally throw in a couple gold.
But the problem is that step 2 is actually "???". I guess the likely worst case is he just cancels OB, and then we re-offer with gpt thrown in? But who knows what he will think is a fair price for it. Maybe he thinks straight up OB is fair, or maybe he thinks OB for 7gpt is fair because our exports - imports is 15. Neither is really correct.

I suppose the island city is going to be called Jingo?

Jingo is already taken, it's our coastal city which is enabling the settling here.
