Is Pitboss 23 going to be full diplo? You've always wanted a poor man's Noble Helium / Commodore rivalry in your threads I'm sure. And I picked the "LP" in my name so it would taunt people to attack.

Does anyone think this Mikehendi guy might be for real? After all, I just read Seven's PBEM 6 thread from 2010 and was thinking "hmm, I actually know more about Civ than this guy" so everyone starts somewhere. I imagine I see similarities, and Mikehendi seems to be managing the small stuff really well: beaker and hammer counts and such. (He's already far better than me there for sure.) And it seems like that's how Seven wins too, by being that 3% ahead of the rest on every play, taking all the small theoretical advantages and adding them up.
The other path to Civ greatness is the Mackoti path, having this mysterious power to see the big picture, understand it better than everyone else, and make the exactly correct large strategic play for the circumstances. (Is he also as good as Seven and Krill at the small math micro stuff?)
I guess it remains to be seen how well Mikehendi holds up when he's facing aggressive and competent opponents and has to throw his sandboxes out.

Mike's clearly second in this game IMO. He's good, but the field is not very good IMO. He would not be doing nearly as well if he'd had Gavagai as a neighbor. Everything is situation based.
Mackoti just knows shit. Half of its feel half of its knowledge. I've seen him play 4 PBEMs at once, and winning all of them. So its not like he needs to spend huge amounts of time calculating things in games. Mack?

I don't know if is because of a language barrier but I find Mikehendi very patronizing that is why I mostly just look to the pictures.
But to compare his game to Pb11 is just silly, if he would have had a random leader/civ in a random unbalanced map from the beginning I don't think he would be "crushing" everyone, I even go so far to said that going from a crappy start to a good position requires more skill than just sandbox things from the start with the leader and civ that you get to choose.

I see him patting himself on the back a little too soon as well. You can't really compare stats across different games. On the other hand to say that a team of Seven and Krill is more competition than PB11 (even on Monte / Zulu) isn't too much of a stretch.

I really wonder if he goes to the full details of micro like some do, especially Seven (oh crap my hammers aren't a multiple of four, so I need to plan my tile assignments differently), or just plays the big picture well enough to not need these tiny edges.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mackoti spends far less time on his games as the other top players around here - it seems like he wins his games on intuiting strategic decisions, whereas everyone else around here gets good by getting better and better at calculating micro.
In a way, it makes sense. You can't learn intuition by reading a few dozen reporting threads, but you can learn to plot out optimal worker moves ten turns out.

Yeah, Mike is patting himself on the back a bit, and he is a bit patronizing, but in the end he'll be conceding to Seven like everyone else.

Well, I think he's playing very well, and when faced with the utterly incompetent play of his neighbor (I forget who it is) he was very polite and respectful about pointing that out. I haven't checked his most recent posts yet, but a modicum of self-congratulation doesn't seem misplaced to me. Better than fake modesty, IMO.
If you know what I mean.

Seven is not just a micro master, he is also extremely good at calculating what is the most advantageous path to take when presented with multiple choices (which is a key thing in Civ and very hard to do, since there's no direct way to compare this different ways you can take).
