RP Pitboss #2 [SPOILERS] - Darius I of the Holy Roman Empire

Krondor founded!

There is a healing warrior of Dantski 2 tiles north of Krondor:

We're to late for Budism:

Science down to 80%, Pottery still due in 1 turn.

Krondor will grow in 8, so we don't need to whip since the mine will be done then.
Monument in 30 turns.
Warrior ordered in Rolan, will take 3 turns, but after 2 we'll swap to worker since the city will be grown to size 5.

In a few turns we can get the horses connected as well due to a border pop.

What to do with science now? Writing first of still Meditation?

Nakor Wrote:Thanks, DMOC!

The worker won't take that long to build, but I'll wait on your input on the whipping. Really not my thing.

I think we can go for the gold site too, but would try to build a third settler soon to block Dantski.

Second city can start building axes, I guess? Do we want Barracks there?

Ok, we beeline CoL. Let's go for Med first, we might get a religion. Still nothing founded. Then writing, priesthood, CoL. Might even get 2 religions that way...

Have you got thoughts on how to name our cities?

The first city should build a monument first (for culture) then one axemen.

What do you think of this:

1. Monument
2. Axemen (UP TO 1 TURN OF COMPLETION)
3. Barracks
4. Finish axeman in 1 turn

This way we get the barracks bonus. If there's an emergency, we can always get the axemen produced. I like to build military like this in the BC's.

Sure you were planning to do it, but be cool to see a piccie of the lands when the new city appears!

How do you feel the game is going so far?

Not sure so far, since we don't have a lot of demographic information.

Nakor Wrote:BobRoberts:
I'll post a pic after next turn, when te next city is founded.

I've got the feeling that we're doing pretty ok. Things were a bit shaky with the worker first start and Dantski's power way above us, but now we're getting on the same level and axes will appear soon to defend us.
I think our tech rate is really good and if we can even improve that, we can go a long way, I guess. Superior units should be able to keep us safe.
It would be awesome if we can get Meditation first (7 turns from now) and get Hinduism, but I consider that a bonus.

We need to get into contact with other to get a better overview of how we're doing.

DMOC, what are our plans untill 1AD? I suggest we rex like crazy and not plan any war. Or do you think we need to take Dantski out soon and plan an axe rush? If we focus on our science and expansion we should get supperior units after 1AD and be able to attack someone.

About naming the cities, if it's ok with you, I'll name them after the cities on Midkemia (fantasty series of Feist).

Our plan in order of priority

1. REX, cottage, and use our economic advantages to their fullest
2. REX, cottage, but keep a steady military
3. Military
4. Wonder spam

Ideally we'll probably be at #2. I definitely would like to be as close to #1 as possible, as long as we're safe.

You can name cities after Midkemia (don't know what that is). I rarely name cities in civ anyway, even in multiplayer. lol

BobRoberts Wrote:Cheers for the answers there: Gives me something to distract myself from the work I'm meant to be doing!

Meditation giving the extra pay off would be cool. Strange how it differs from the single player experience in regards to the fallout of the religions.

Axes would definitely add a nice security blanket feeling...

Midkemia - wonder if you can build yourself a Pug? smile

Yes, axes would be nice.

***The post above was done without regard to post 120. This post here responds to #121.

I was originally thinking of Writing after Pottery. After thinking it over, I think we should research Polytheism. There's a slim chance we'll get Hinduism, and it leads to Priesthood -> CoL/Monarchy/Literature, 3 important technologies. The benefit of writing (libraries) will need to wait and our cities aren't really developed enough to whip libraries anyway, except the capital which should produce workers/settlers.

The block city is perfect. That will be city 4.

Lastly, keep science at either 0% or 100% (binary research). If you're researching 100% and can't finish the tech even with micromanagement, then switch to 0% for a turn and try 100% the following turn.

Dantski knows where our second city is for sure. (Also, disregard the 0% slider - I changed it back to 80% but after this turn we should drop to 0% research for a couple of turns.)

Played the next turn. Pottery is in, reseach set to Polytheism (139 turns with 0% science). If we go with 2 turns 0% we can finish Poly in 5 turns at 100%.

Worker moved to copper and will start mining next turn.

Rolan is one turn from growth and will change it's build to Worker then.

Sounds like a good idea, let's do that.

With a few axes I think we'll be safe. We're number 3 in soldiers at the moment.

Told Dantski about our new city:

Quote:Hi Dantski,

How is our closest and best neighbour doing?

We went for the copper spot with our settler, as you must have seen.
You told us you weren't planning on settling in our direction, so therefore are pretty certain that you don't see our move as a threat to your empire.
It just was the best copper site for us, so don't be afraid once you see some axes defending our cities.

We both get our horses online after our capital's border pops, so I think that's the case for all civs. Horses outside the BFC of the capital.

We also saw that Budism was founded. Was it you and can we expect a missionary soon? Or was it someone else?

We still haven't met anyone else... have you?

Hope to hear from you soon!

Nakor

His reply:

Quote:Dear Nakor,

Yes I noticed your new city and accept that you had to secure a source of metal for security, even if the positioning is closer to me than it is to you.

As for Buddhism I didn't found it and I could only speculate as to who landed it.

Played another turn.

Switched Rolan to a worker (5 turns), warrior will take 1 turn. Let's follow your initial thought and save the whip for the settler.

Do we go for gold site or block city? Gold still the best plan?

Still at 0% science. Next turn we can go for Poly (6 turns) at -4 with 32 in the bank.

Worker started on the copper mine (4 turns), while Krondor will take 6 turns to grow. So no whipping there yet.

Fourth warrior starts moving east again to scout.

Turn 50:

Research to 100%, Polytheism in 6 turns at -4 gpt with 32 gold
Nothing else, very quiet turn.

I have two questions:
1. Do we need Barracks in Krondor? I don't think it will be a production city in the long run.
2. With our second worker, do we finish the road first, or shall we mine the second hill first to get a better production and let Rolan work 5 improved tiles?

Ok, so Polytheism will be our next tech. Writing or Priesthood will probably follow. If we can start producing libraries in at least 2 cities by the time polytheism is completed I think we should research Writing after Polytheism - what do you think?

Nakor Wrote:Told Dantski about our new city:

Okay, good thing he reacted reasonably. In another pitboss I played (Team Saturn), there was a BIG fight that resulted in a player leaving the game, all becauase one player (who was making the wisest strategic decision) founded a city closer to his opponent than to himself.

Ok, save whip for settler.

I would definitely found the gold city - it is more valuable than our blocking city. Furthermore, the gold city has huge fogbusting ability since it's landlocked.

Okay, so we're on full steam for Polytheism.

1. I would build a barracks in Krondor. I suggest you start building once an axemen at Krondor (which should be produced after our monument there
) is 1 turn to completion. Rationale:
  • This saves our maintenance costs until later.
  • This gives our opponents a misleading view of our power graph
  • We get the barracks experience if we complete the barracks.
  • If we're building the barracks and an emergency occurs (barbarian spearman) then we can finish the axe in 1 turn and continue the barracks later.

2. I would mine the hill first. Roads can come later and only have value if they are used or if they connect resources (not applicable in our situation here).

The only thing I am concerned about here is that someone has a LOT of land area already! But it's probably a creative civ.
