"Which means we can grow this turn... Grow being a relative term I guess."
I don't know why I laughed so heartily.

Hogfather discussion on whether to start building a settler or not. And you calced out that you would rather do a 3 pop whip once the artists were done popping borders so you said you didn't need to start the settler this turn. Instead you could grow, so you swapped it over to wealth and you were gaining like 3 food and growth in like 5 turns. So then you said it, deadpan-like, and I couldn't stop laughing.
Also funny was learn to count time as you constantly would say 1,2,3,4,5,6 out loud to yourself. I usually do it in my head so hearing it out loud was funny.

Ha, I'm glad I succeeded in teaching counting accurately!
Thinking and talking at the same time is hard.
Seriously though, glad you enjoyed it.

For those of you who aren't watching two hours of video, the GLH was built in a faraway land, saving us from arguing about it. We also planned out where our next 6 settlers (from the next 5t of slavery) are going.
The following two turns have just been setting the settling plans in motion. On this last turn, we revolted to slavery and OR, and whipped 3 settlers. We also met Mikehendi with our workboat. He seems to be on the islands east of goreripper, which is a bit odd. I would sooner expect to find Gavagai there. Mikehendi has the music line, Monarchy, and Civil Service on us, while naturally lacking alphabet and philosophy. He is in HR and OR but not Bureaucracy. Hashoosh also got CS. Good timing for us: we're just starting on CS research nowish and could use the 5% known tech boost. It looks to me like CS research will take 10-11 turns if expansion and growth don't impact our tech rate in aggregate. That means we should plan to swap to Bureaucracy after this slavery cycle and the next caste cycle.

In what, 15 turns, we'll have every city settled (or the last few settlers on their way)? And after that the bpt doesn't go anywhere but up. We'll have just gone into Bureaucracy, and after that I think Metal Casting is the right choice? Otherwise it's Monarchy first for HR and a bit more happiness, but with 3 metal happy the forges really are worthwhile in GP and a few other cities.
Where will the others be in 15 turns?
The only answer that really matters is this: Not on our doorstep.

Yeah, pretty much.
I don't think Monarchy is that important for this position. We have quite a large happiness influx from resources and it will still grow: we are getting silk and incense hooked soon, and our biggest city (the capital) is getting a religion and a 3 happiness market soon. So that tech is pretty much a vanilla prerequisite for feudalism, I think. Metal Casting will be good - we'll need good things to build soon, once we're done building settlers. Archery would also be nice, and so would Aesthetics-Literature for epics.
On my to-do list is to figure out how fast we can finish Mausoleum (assuming no one else builds it). That's an important turn to know because we'll probably want to get a great person for a golden age and start it soon after.
I fully expect Mikehendi to start a golden age at any moment. We know he got the music artist and thinking about it, he probably only just got civil service. His GPT was something like 160 but his saved gold was, IIRC, 3. So what I think happened is he spent all his gold getting CS last turn, and then set his tech rate back to 0% after ending turn (he was last to play).

Do we really need to do this, or would it be better to wait a bit and trigger it when the last few continental cities start to reach respectable sizes?
I figure that IF the strategy is to go crush the people above/below with knights, wouldn't a GA triggered after researching Guilds to build knights, and to power research to Astro where we then slave out galleons be well timed?

Looking solely at our own empire, the golden age should wait as long as possible. However, I'd like the option to start it sooner, because this likely is the part of the game where the other contenders make their big moves.
As for the timing you're thinking of: that sounds pretty good... and I think the mausoleum might take about that long.
