[PB16 SPOILERS] SevenSpirits goes off the deep end and finds Krill

Isn't the hammer output from MaA something like 18hpt at best?

I think it's 21 before workshops. (So, 26 under OR.)

Actually it's 24 (30).

Funny thing: I offered OB to Mike last turn. He declined and countered OB for 10gpt. I countered with OB for some large amount of gpt from him (like, 86?). Yay.

Mike declined to give us 29853 gold per turn for OB, and then subsequently declined the straight OB, so I declared war on him. I wonder if I should have declared was as soon as we met so he wouldn't ever see our resources. Nah. I think it was worth getting a feel for his OB willingness.

Part of the reason for the war declaration is that I want to make it clear to everyone that we are enemies. The other part is our workboat wanted to go through his culture. Awkwardly, he ran into a dead end. There is definitely something weird happening with the map.

So many settlers...it's beautiful.

Also, that crop yield before we settle a bunch of new cities but after we've slaved the settlers is just gorgeous. Fuck the GNP, Mike just went into Bureaucracy and is in a GA. He is probably sitting there thinking "Oh goody, I have about the same number of cities as them" and then 5 turns later has has half what we have.

Well, Mikehendi has been consistently best in score due to both pop and tech. (In fact, last I checked he had more pop than us due to all our whipping.) That's nothing to scoff at, especially considering he's Elizabeth and probably has Bantams as his co-inhabitant. He's probably going to take over his full continent soon (within 20t?) and have close to our city count, and his will have better-developed cottages and financial to back them up.

By the way, I took a screenshot, so I figure I'd better post it before I play the next turn which is already up. I was both amused and not amused at the same time.

Workboat: Greetings Mikehendi, I was wondering if I could pass through your island cities here. I'm trying to find Gavagai. Also we might both get 1-2cpt from 4c routes!

Mikehendi: You must pay the toll.

Workboat: What is the toll?

Mikehendi: 10 GOLD...

Workboat: What?!

Mikehendi: ... PER TURN!

Workboat: Oh, it's a joke. Haha. Let's see... pay me 86 gold or I will plunder your your coast as I pass through! Hehehe.

Workboat: PER TURN!!!

Workboat: Just kidding, I wouldn't do that. Also I am unarmed.

Mikehendi: No, I do not deal with your kind. Find some other way around, enemy.

Workboat: Aha! You have unmasked me! I am indeed your enemy! I will now attempt to make a run through your straits! Chaarrrrrge- oh, dead end, hm.

Workboat: I don't think those were island cities.

Workboat: I guess I'll try going north as you suggested.

In case it's not clear, you can see on the left that there is a straight channel of water running horizontally. As far as we knew up until right now, this channel went all the way around the map. So I thought we were just going either N or S around an island, but actually it looks like we've reached a T intersection. That looks too big to be an island on this map, so I guess it's Mike's continent. So maybe it's still Mike and Bantams on a continent but they are laid out vertically? And then Gaspar and Gavagai vertically on the other one. It might be difficult to get through the meet Gavagai in that case. I will have to check out the math on how wide their continents can be if that's the case. It seems like they would be relatively tall and skinny.

In other news, I noticed that wetbandit was spending espionage on us despite having our graphs and not having any EP against at least one other contact. So I offered him a gold trade:

I proposed we each pay each other gold according to how much EP we've spend on each other. My intent is to just make him check his spending because I think the most likely explanation is that he forgot. It's a bit risky though as he could take it in a wildly different way.

Final piece of diplo news: When Krill logged in, apparently Hashoosh had offered his Clam + Cow for our Fish + Cow. I think this is a sort of cross between two AI diplo techniques that I've seen in the past:

1) Identical resource swap. Intuitively this indicates mutually agreed cooperation, and specifically avoids having an in-game effect as much as possible.

2) Trading all the resources of a city in a contested spot to the potential contester. This is intended as a compromise, along the lines of "I get the city, but you can have the resources" or vice versa. Novice and I used this in my first no talking game, pbem23, when Sian was unhappy about a city we placed on an island between us. (We offered him all the resources from the city, or at least something close to that.)

In this case, we have exactly one border city with Hashoosh, and it claims cow and fish. (In fact, the fish used to be in his borders. We popped borders with an artist and no culture has been added by either side since.) Coincidence? I doubt it. Krill told me that Hashoosh doesn't have fish of his own so I think he just meant the clam to stand in as a proxy. So I had Krill accept it. It has no health effect on us (we have more fish anyway) and maybe gives +1 health from the fish to Hashoosh, which I really hope it does, because then he might be happier with us.

How quickly can we get to Guilds? IMO We can easily invade with galleys and caravels and then finish the job off with galleons (some of which get upgraded). On top of that, his GNP now is inflated by a GA and Bureaucracy, he already has an Academy (He's Lizzie), so I don't see his GNP increasing that much due to single interventions like Oxford for a while. We just need to keep up the land snowball, and match Mike naval unit for naval unit.

I think after the next slavery cycle there are only 4 settlers needed to finish off the continent, so unless you wanted to contest the island south of Last Hero, or that land (I think it might be an island?) to the west of Soul Music, it's just growing cities, grabbing commerce, getting basic infrastructure in place and then liquidising that pop for knights and boats to go kill people. Just have to do it as quickly as possible. Still think killing Kuro and wetbandit is the right thing to do, because that continent is as far away as possible from Mike, so he will have great difficulty in doing anything to stop us, and if we get that continent we have 1/3 of the entire map. Also, invading Kuro first, and also trying to settle the islands of his eastern coast might be the best first move, because then we have additional control over that continent during any wars, making it still harder for Mike to intervene.

Krill rightly pointed out that out dotmap was conflicting a bit with Gaspar's. His solution is to settle XXXX instead of x. We were also planning to settle the western hill next to the crabs.

The way I see it, Gaspar has a bit of claim to those seafood because he settled his city first. But we also have a claim to them because they are first-ringable from our continent and not from his. I don't want to piss Gaspar off so I tried to negotiate a compromise. We'll have to see how well that works.

First I had to cancel our fish for fish deal so that Gaspar had a fish available to trade. I also moved the chariot into his vision by the fish and put it in fortify.

My thinking is for us to settle the fish but leave the crab to him.

Yeah. Kuro's not doing so hot, so that's a nice bonus.

I'm not sure what the best timing will be yet. I do want to build up our own continent some first. Probably including the epics.

I think that a reassessment when we get into Bureaucracy is the best thing. That will be around the time Mike is out of his GA, so we can look at the beaker disparity and other demographic data.

I agree that the epics are good. Aesthetics>Lit is fairly cheep, same cost as MC? But if MoM is still being built, Lit can reasonable be left until that is finished (and MaA building a Forge is fine as well if it's sitting there making knights). So maybe CS>MC>Aesthetics>Lit?

Either way, we're stuck building up this continent until we have Guilds. Every pop point we grow is 1/3 of a knight, so I'm always happy with growing pop (and markets are good, enough happiness there to stack up more knight whips...)
