Btw I've given up on diplo. It requires people to not take things personally and not get their feelings hurt, and I don't think it's possible

I don't have that kind of free time anymore. Although it was fun to do it once. Though I think we would have drifted towards less fluff messages in diplo games if we had kept playing them.
So to bring us back on track. First a summary of the impi-in-Greece's adventures.
t119 I realized that our impi should be hunting for a great merchant (after I moved). t120 The great merchant completed its mission (after I moved). t121 I resume exploration and immediately encounter a Mikehendian chariot. I kill it and continue on my way. t122 I continue exploration and gain sight of a galley which is two tiles away from Gore's capital, facing away. So let's reconstruct things, skipping the part where I didn't know that galleys could enter other player's cities. On t120, the galley with the merchant moved into Gore's capital and immediately and safely performed the trade mission. On t121, I missed out on killing the galley because I was distracted by the chariot. Then it moved out. On t122, I moved before the galley and caught a glimpse of it waving goodbye, spurring me to rediscover that you can use boats for merchants without ever unloading the merchant. It all checks out. You may wonder, how did I not know that you can move boats into other players' cities? Well, at some point I must have tried to move a caravel through someone's city without OB, and that's not allowed, even though Caravels can "explore rival territory" i.e. move through rival water tiles without OB. And from this I thought that you could never enter enemy cities. It's funny because I can remember knowing how it worked (correctly) before then, but I guess I trusted my new experience too broadly (and have played a lot of AW games more recently where it doesn't matter). So anyway. Now that I know this: 1) Merchant hunting is obviously unlikely to accomplish anything. 2) Our own merchants will be safer. Yay! Another random item before I begin the pictures: I finally got someone interested in trading for a metal. Gaspar countered with 6gpt for our gems. I took it. I think with only 6gpt this qualifies as a temporary deal and I won't feel bad about cancelling it later. But I think it's worth taking for now because it's a free 6gpt for us, and +2 happy in all their cities in exchange for -6gpt for them is not bad from our point of view. We're not using the happiness so this boost to them is creating value out of thin air. On to the pics. I took overview shots of the empire rather than a pic for each city, because this way you get more context. Center and then clockwise from the top right. Capital will get Bureau next turn. It has an academy which is sadly not very effective right now, but will become quite good soon, with courthouses being whipped, and later, merchants. MaA is at 30hpt and building MoM. Remember, whipping 3 pop to get it a turn early is an option. I expect to want to take it. Eric is being 4->2 whipped repeatedly but will probably be allowed to grow a bit now. NW is whipping with its crazy food until we go back to pacifism after MoM is done or dead. Hogfather is whipping more than ToT because it has worse tiles, while ToT can slowbuild missionaries. That's why HF has the food right now. Some fairly new cities here. At Witches Abroad, I improved cow before chopping, because I was revolting out of slavery before the chop could finish, so the granary wasn't finishing for 5t anyway. Jingo is just being repeatedly whipped - it has the second highest food surplus of the empire. Truth just finished its lighthouse. Last Hero pops borders next turn enabling silk hookup, then it whips a granary. Small Gods is growing onto the lighthouse lakes for now and has things to whip, so I didn't bother cottaging it yet. Last Continent is growing on coast right now because we have been building a small bit of wealth/research, so the commerce is directly lessening the amount we have to do that and thus sort of turning back into hammers elsewhere. Sourcery 2whipped a granary and grows now, probably until whipping a courthouse. Soul Music is building research because we need exactly that many beakers to get CS this turn. Turning the slider up by 10% would require significantly more wealth builds. Ad Hoc lost a galley in the inscrutable maze of our coastline. The tile 4S1E of NW is at this point the only tile on my continent which I think I have to guard with a unit to prevent barb spawns. Light Fantastic is settled in our preferred location, and I don't think we'll have trouble maintaining control of the fish. CJ needs workers badly for the FP cottages, so it's whipping one and overflowing to complete the granary. The granary isn't done yet because the forest we could afford the worker labor to chop had to go to the workboat for the clam, and then it barely missed the slavery window, not reaching size 4 soon enough. Snuff is chopping its forests now for the granary rather than saving them for Moai as I had at one point thought to do. The fact is, Moai isn't a great build for us anywhere because it's really expensive and there's no stone, and we don't have a place that can build it in a reasonable timeframe. So I'm not building it anywhere for the time being. Moving Pictures has great river grass and food but we're going to whip a courthouse ASAP because it's far away from the capital. Other parts later. |
