[LURKERS] Sweet 16: Civ Party Fun Time and Philosophical Debate

Right. So convert everyone else to AI and let them go at it? Civ 4 isn't played in a vacuum. The decision by NobleGas to attack affects Sullla as much as the decision not to attack affects Sullla.

..? I'm not saying anywhere in there what anyone SHOULD do. It's Civ, do what you want. I don't think they're making a good decision at all, but they are more than welcome to make it. Just saying that I was rooting for them not attacking as a lurker who is only following this game for pure entertainment.

Also, I fully believe Gaspar knows about Sullla, and that's motivating his decision (and in-thread hostility towards France) here more than a little a bit.

So again at this point it doesn't matter what they do, no? And yes their play to this point has led to this, but again what do you expect them to do now? They still have to play the game. They can't just convert to AI too. To condemn them as spiteful is too much. You would rather they just sat and waited for the end to come? That's a bit self righteous.

I guess spiteful is understood as a stronger word than I intended it to be. I just meant that this attack does not appear to me like a winning move - and you might be right that by now they are out of those - but also does not seem to be related to anything that happened in the game. In their shoes, I probably would have tried to see what I can do against Gavagai while he is away fighting. Or not built as many units in the first place if I won't be able to use them effectively.

And I really don't like that part of their explanation for their attack is "someone had to call him on his farmers gambit". That sounds like an excuse to me and if they feel they need to explain / excuse their attack, I'd say chances are they realize themselves that it isn't actually the most logical thing to do.

(Also from a game-winning standpoint I believe attacking Gavagai [with a few catapults instead of plain HAs, which will not work if your opponent has copper and can build Spears] while he is away would yield probably more cities while having a high chance of Mike keeping to his farmer gambit. Now instead they have to fear Gavagai attacking them and therefore have to produce even more military. Leading to Gavagai probably producing more as well. There is only one party winning by their move and that is Seven/Krill.)

I realize I don't know Krill as well as you do, but your quote seems to support the opposite conclusion. It's not like Krill missed noticing that Sullla's unavailable for dedlurking anyone in 18, after all.

Well, NobleGas might just want to end the game as well. I can see more players supporting the concession once their war declaration goes through.

Edit:

Seems like their reasoning fits your deduction pretty well - in which case it's just debatable component of their playing style, not spiteful (albeit you agreed that usage of that word was bit too strong). I also think playing to keep their neighbours weak are not necessarily playstyle exclusive to NobleGas too.

Heh, if they hadn't driven me away, Mike would have had a super aggressive player as a neighbor wink

I thought Sullla said he had prepared for this?

I think Darrell is mocking the "all the vets know who Mike really is" discussion wink

Oh! That makes sense.

I blame Daylight Savings.

So, i'm unsure about how to proceed here. Do I call a vote through PMs to see who wants to keep going and who wants to abandon the game? That's basically ending the game right there, I'd say, so I don't know if that's a good thing.
