It's sad, but if "Mike" wants to concede and end it, everyone else with even a semi-realistic chance of winning has said they would end the game, right? (Goreripper = game is a farce, Gaspar = wants to quit, Gavagai = wants to keep playing but thinks there's no point if Mike has checked out). I can't see that anyone else would think they have a chance of actually winning, and isn't that the guideline for concession?

Generally, the impetus is on the second place player on whether or not to concede. I think as long as Sullla doesn't say he's OK with concession, pushing concession talk is premature (once it starts being discussed, it inevitably happens). I would let it be until you get something more concrete than Sullla being unenthusiastic.
Also, I generally agree with all Gaspar's points, but I don't really understand the outburst. Who in his thread was accusing him of the things he was mad about? I dunno, whole thing was bizarre. I'm firmly pro "players can say whatever they want, it's their threads," I'm just wondering if there's some context I've missed because I've only read like 1/10th of their thread.
There was a bit of conversation in their thread about the map, and Serdoa mentioned that the capital food situation wasn't ideal, but also not why they were not doing well. Something to that effect, IIRC.

Normally an explosion in the lurker thread followed by mild comments in a player thread reflects a debate about that player's choices .

Heh, Gaspar/NH's desperate declaration turned out to be an amazing move. The psychological effect of being in war with yet another player was enough to make Mike quit. The replacement player or AI would surely be a much easier opponent. Though I expect the game to be called now. Would be fitting if it ends how it started, I suppose.
Ah, what a shame. Sulla hasn't even lost a unit yet and he wants to leave the game. I understand what a blow Gaspar's coming attack must be psychologically, but to quit without even making a pretense of trying to put up a fight is sort of sad. He trooped through PB2, even after most of the world pooped in his sandbox- perhaps he really needs the more martially-inclined Speaker to inoculate against Glass Jaw Syndrome (AKA "The Nakors"). I sort of, kind of half-suspect Goreripper is indeed Speaker using a VPN or something.
(I realize that the comparison to Nakor isn't exactly accurate, since Sulla presumably would actually invest in military once engaged, but the cliff-like drop in morale upon being war'decd is a commonality).
I would agree, except that it sounds like there's more going on in his personal life that's informing this. I know exactly how that feels, and don't fault him one iota. My post in his thread reflects my thoughts on this matter.
Edit: And I think (if yuri doesn't want it) mackoti should take over, if possible (I haven't read much of the other threads so I don't know if he's unduly spoiled). He's shown great enthusiasm for Sullla's game and is probably just about the only person left with the skill level to make this game worth continuing (from a competitive perspective).
Generally, whenever one of these games starts affecting someone's personal life negatively, I don't ever blame them in the slightest for backing out. This should be a fun hobby, not a chore.
edit: disclaimer that people who gain a reputation for joining and ditching lots of games are a different matter, but there aren't too many of those |
