Anyone here feel that Riot doesnt really know what they are doing this season in terms of the meta? All the changes seemed very arbitrary and frankly poor for the good of the game.

I don't think the changes are arbitrary... I can see the plan behind most of them. They want to equalize most champions' power a bit more across the game (hence the Lee Sin changes). I think they dropped the ball with the trinket changes; they didn't at all foresee that this would make late jungle invades and 2v1 laneswaps virtually mandatory at the professional level.

Having said that, I think they do know what they're doing with Feral Flare, which is the longed-for change to allow carry junglers back into the meta. Something might need to be done about Master Yi at the lower levels of play now - I would expect nerfs before toooo too long - but it's definitely added a new dimension to the jungle at the higher levels, with junglers like Xin and Nocturne suddenly back into the fold.

I think that Riot has a good idea and that idea is to reek in money. Having everyone grind even more than was already necessary to have good runes (Health seals, the new golden standard, are double the price of Armor seals, the old golden standard), sheepishly giving you a discount on IP boosts to "make it fair" (so you're basically paying for new runes if you go that way lol).

And in terms of the meta, I hate it. I hate it how the jungler is way more relevant than the AD carry right now at all stages of the game just because he gets Wriggles and is fully capable of 1v5. Assassins got nerfed by Heal and Exhaust changes, but on the other hand that means that every time a Zed or LeBlanc is in my team, we lose. Jax is now the most important top lane pick - refreshing after the Mundo/Trundle/Shyvana/Renekton domination, but it's still one-dimensional as fuck. The game became much more passive and it's no longer about snowballing and winning for most solo queue games, it's about having someone trip up and get caught after a 30-40 minute stalemate. League became much more boring to watch as well because first 5 minutes is about 4v1 lanes.

Well, there's the logic behind the idea, but they don't seem to grasp all the consequences.

The Trinkets and new GP/5 items were a really, really weird idea. Early iterations meant you could cover the whole river before creep spawns. Now they're approaching a reasonable balance. The GP/5 and scaling Support changes brought interesting dimensions to champs that used to be fun joke picks that sorta worked (Lulu and Soraka mid!).

Most of the rune re-work was a good idea. Especially unifying where the Flat vs Scaling crossover points were. But slight variations created new first-order just-do-this-standard like going Health Seals.

Right now the 2v1 lane swapping meta seems alright. Although the whole top-tower-has-extra-defense is a sad carryover from the previous tower-kill meta. I feel they should have that bonus on both top and bot towers just to make it even.

So yeah, the ideas behind the changes are usually good. But they don't always see the (imo easily spottable) balance changes that occur due to new synergies that create new God Tier combinations.

EDIT: Some might claim that if they left the meta alone for long enough and only did slight changes, eventually they would get a more stable and interesting meta a la StarCraft or even DotA2. I find quite a bit of merit in that thinking. At least this isn't S2 and them churning out an OP Champ every 2 weeks.
