Looking forward to "Mikehendi" coming in here to reveal to the other players who he really is. wink

I'm conceding to an informal alliance between Seven, Retep and Gaspar which was dominant in this game. Good game, guys.
/Joking/. Seriously, good game Seven. Yes, you were lucky but you also were good.

So I'm just going to get this one out of the way, this was a smurf-heavy game. Goreripper=Commodore

The Goreripper Project:
So why did I make a smurf? Clearly it isn't just to trounce newbies in Serdoan or "Mike"ian bliss, as I hope the selection of the middling Zara/Greece made clear (my criteria was "fun, cool art"). And with the signup date of Jan 2013, this was clearly not some whim. Instead, I put up the Goreripper smurf to prove a point.

I was then in the midst of PB8 and a battle to the death (or exile, turned out) with the Zulus. That game seemed like the upteenth in a long line of games where I found myself in an eternal deathwar. My reputation seemed to be "Monty/Bull Shark" and that fed itself in a bad cycle...neighbors bristled and armed and aggressed towards me, which meant I had to hit them first, which just fed the mad dog reputation something terrible. Thestick's delightful quote archeive shows the memes present then. I didn't know how to stop it. Thus, Goreripper was born.

Now the first concern was to sufficiently differentiate Goreripper's style from my own, which is marked by excessive verbosity, commas, and ellipsis...thus the blunt short punchy sound. Then, one must establish an alibi...where better than in the billion-posts-per-day Werewolf arena? So in I dove. But I should have known that would also have other personality effects.

In high school/early college, I worked in a fast food chain, and there were already several people there going by my first name, so I went by my second name, Ray. Thing is, stressful, tiring job, completely different culture...Ray was kind of an asshole. Not terrible or anything, but notably harsher than I am anywhere else. You want to give yourself split personality? Go by a different name in a new environment.

So, um, werewolf y'all. You guys play hardcore, and your pet cretins (Jowy and ilk) sure don't bring out the zen. Sadly, this evolved the Goreripper persona into a pretty brutal, if funny, direction. Ergo, the butthurt (sorry BNG, love ya buddy, I was just doing a bit).

Then, slowly, I managed to annul the reason for Goreripper in the first place, even as I began the Ocean of Tears, PB16. In PB15, I screwed myself early, but just bent to make my happy little sandbox...if I'd been near Pindicator I'd have tried to win via eating the crippled, but no way to win with my neighbor set, so I just carried on all cheerful until someone came a-crappin' in my sandbox. Then, of course, I was happy to ruin the sandbox defiler's game, but that's not a rep I mind. And in PB13, weirdly enough, I've managed quite the peaceful little game when it was clear I couldn't win with my neighbor set up.

Finally, nail in the freaking coffin, unbeknownst to me Serdoa opted to make the Realms Beyond Duel League 2.0. Can't be peaceful, can't be nice to one neighbor and acquisitive to the next, gotta win your duel and then wave at Seven's bombers. So Goreripper, as a project, is a rather complete failure.

I never wanted to shark anything; I have chats with my witnesses to prove it. I was planning on something Cyrus-level with the original set, the middling Zara I only took when I saw Gasble and Seven join up. And again, my goal was to smurf to stay at peace, not to wage war. So I'll certainly give ole Mike the benefit of the doubt too.

Still, it was interesting. Impressive as all hell as usual, Seven, good game, good game to all of you...whining and moaning aside, this was as smooth a game as could be hoped for. Particularly good job for a green Hashoosh, way to go duel buddy. You didn't do as well as five veterans with countless games behind them, no shame there. Before I hit you with the billion knights, you were leading the green contingent. Ask me anything, I'd be happy to advise you on your further adventures.
---
Finally, and this is just speaking for myself, not any kind of comment to anyone else smurfing...

I am sorry. frown I beelined the Gaspar opposition analysis once the game was called because those are always the best, and he mentioned me as having a martyr complex. I don't want that to be true...but making a smurf for the above reasons? Yeah, that's martyr behavior. My war reputation certainly got inflated, but I'm as responsible for that as anyone else, and it's an mild exaggeration, not at all unfair.

The way to learn is to own your mistakes and learn from them. Smurfing is an inherently dishonest activity that hurts a community, but it also hurts the person doing it. It's disowning your mistakes, the very core of dishonesty, and it utterly retards growth, as a player but more importantly as a person. Make mistakes; own up to them; repent of them; grow. That's the process we should all endevour to follow.

So, here, now, I am owning to this one. Goreripper will certainly continue to be used as a comic device, but I'll away from the smurfing ring. I'm sorry to anyone hurt/dismayed by this, and I'm sorry to anyone not hurt, it's still wrong of me.

Nah, he's just in a lot of greens games, I was thinking of PB12 specifically. Although that capital he settled was just as much a handicapping as Monty/Zulu...
