March Madness: Civ4 AI Edition

Winner: Hannibal
Runner Up: Bismark
First to Die: Churchill
Survivors: 4
Victory: Space, 311

Interesting map. That giant blob of mountains and desert east of Beijing seems to split the world in two, though Mao will probably settle past there along the coast. If he doesn't, Bismark has a chance to take a giant pile of territory, easily enough to make him a serious contender.

Hannibal's river looks very nice for Financial, and I like his geographic position better than some others - Wang Kon and Cyrus are both going to have to settle right up to their southern neighbor or pick their way along the coast if they want good land, making for long stretched-out empires and possible border conflicts. Churchill has terrible traits and is neighbored by Mao & my winning pick, so he beats Cyrus out for first to die.

Runner-up's the hardest, as I could easily talk myself into Bismark, Mao, or either of the two eastmost civs. If Bismark does get distracted by Mao, both Wang Kon and Asoka are capable of turning peaceful neighbors into an economic snowball; on the other hand, if Bismark gets to attack Asoka or settle freely up to the Chinese desert then he should have a massive land advantage. On balance I think Bismark has the most ways to win from this position, so I'll go with him second. Financial winner in an even game means I'm picking space victory.

Victory Date and Type - Diplomatic T305

Wang seemed like the obvious pick to win without seeing the map, but I don't like his land at all. In terms of land I liked Bis and Hanni's land the best and I'm guessing Hannibal will get along better with Cyrus than he will with Churchill which will lead to that conflict, Mao seems to play a bit like Catherine and will probably jump into a war when its convenient. I think Bismarck can claim the most land peacefully and will be prepared to beat up Asoka and whittle him down just fast enough to not die to aggression from Wang, after that he can clean up Wang or possibly double up on Mao with Hannibal.

First time to voice my thinking, watch it all go in completely the opposite direction!

Winner: Bismarck (good traits and an AI that sounds conducive to Deity games on paper in this format. Also good start location)
Runner up: Mao Zedong (I was tempted to pick Hannibal but he's sandwiched by two protective civs, and as terrible as that trait is in a human game, I have a feeling it's going to be a significant disadvantage for him)
First to die: Asoka (I suspect he gets eaten by Bismarck)
Number of survivors: 4
Victory Date: T314
Victory type: Space

I like Wang out of these but his starting land is really bad. Rolling the dice on him anyways

Winner: Hannibal - He has really good land. Fin on a river next to FPs. That's hard to screw up even for the AI
Runner Up: Bismark - Expansive/Industrious require the AI to behave intelligently while Fin/Char are more passive.
First to Die: Churchill - It seems pretty definitive that Civ Density implies death. I would also rank Churchill as a worse AI than Mao
Number of Survivors: 3 - Why Not
Victory Date & Type: Space, 301 - No idea
