March Madness: Civ4 AI Edition

Can we do a bracket-style prediction for the playoff games? since we'll know all the teams in each game, we can pick the whole remaining set at once. The choices in the playoffs inform our predicted champ game contenders and we choose win/run/dead from our own projected champ game.

play off round leaders picks score double what the first round did, champ game picks score 4x. We'd have to predict the whole set before the first playoff game though, newcomers welcome until the first playoff is revealed. I can help record predictions if Sullla is (understandably) maxed for this project.

Winner: Hannibal - pretty good start, Financial, and Churchill's in trouble next to two evil peace weight leaders
Runner up: Bismarck - his uniques are too late to make a difference, but should do well/

Okay Mansa, I'll take Printing Press for Liberalism. Now where did I put my cannons?

Cyrus will get boxed in by Hannibal but won't do anything about it. Bismark will bite off more than he can chew against Wang and Asoka, and get himself killed with Asoka taking the lion's share. Mao and Churchill will waste thousands of units on each others protective archers. After that, I have no idea, but I reckon Hannibal will have the best lands and the traits to take it out.

Yeah, not even I think I've a hope of getting any of these right. Well with the RNG you've got to take the rough with the smooth.

This one is very difficult to pick, I was hoping the geography would give more clues. Alright, here's my shot in the dark...

Winner: Bismarck
Runner Up: Cyrus
First to Die: Asoka
Number of Survivors: 3
Victory Date & Type: Space, T323

Reasons why:

From my experience Hannibal does well once he gets going, but Cyrus likes to war a lot and will keep him in check during the early years. Cyrus's position with a single neighbour should give him an advantage, and if Churchill or anyone else gets in on Hannibal from the south then Cyrus stands to gain a lot. Churchill is probably a bit too squished to do well in the long term, unless he takes the lion's share of Hannibal's land. Mao should do alright but not brilliantly - he tends not to be aggressive enough to rank near the top. Bismarck tends to do quite well in some games and quite poorly in others, depending on whether he can be enticed to go to war - I'm rooting for him here because of the map, but it's a risky bet. I can't see Asoka surviving long-term, it's just a question of who will finish him off... especially if he and Wang Kon found Buddhism/Hinduism next door to one another. I still haven't seen a game where Wang Kon has survived to the end, but perhaps he'll surprise me.

Full prediction:

#1 - Cyrus
#2 - Bismarck
#3 - Mao Zedong
#4 - Wang Kon
#5 - Churchill
#6 - Hannibal
#7 - Asoka

Parkin, your picks don't match your full prediction, viz. you've reversed the 1 and 2 spots between the pick and prediction.

Thanks - I decided I liked Bismarck better than Cyrus a few minutes after posting, but forgot to update the spoiler below. Fixed now. smile
