I'm moderately sure that you get the option to pick Ideologies the turn after you finish your factories. I can't quite remember, haven't played into the Industrial era for ages.

Still, Meiz has to worry about losing the bonus production and culture, so he'd better have that calculated. In any case, I agree with his decision to settler on the coast and buy-improve that city state's coal, he can get by without sacrificing long term position. I mean, I'll settle on jungle coal, but regular hill coal can be improved in its own time.

If Miez's foreign legions plan works--the game is over even if everyone dogpills him and uses everything to win (including the science overflow exploit as that's too late).

Well it looks like Miez is going to DoW Azza even though he's already at war with JKaen. This move makes no sense. However, his position is so strong that he will get away with it like Ichabod got away with not attacking pindicator. It's still a dumb move.

Was diplo allowed in the second Civ5 game? I would guess not otherwise someone would post a chat.

I'm pretty sure this game was no diplo, yes.

I was talking about the "PBEM#2" game not this one. I'm pretty sure PBEM#2 was no diplo otherwise someone would have posted a chat but I wanted to make sure.

By rights Azza should have had a spy in the tech leader's capital, and gone into freakout mode over a wave of approaching artillery.

Azza hasn't updated his thread yet so he may have entered "freakout mode". Him not updating is actually a good sign for him entering "nuclear meltdown" mode. As I've said before people stop updating when they are losing--the best example being rego's thread in the first Civ4 pitboss game.

I think what happened in this game is that a broken civ was picked. In the best Civ5 civs//tier list thread on CFC one of the strongest Civ5 players said that Poland deserved its own tier. Then people didn't try and stop him until it was far too late.

Can someone answer my question on whether or not the second Civ5 game allowed diplo? And why is it that diplo is off by default if it leads to massacre's like this? It's more fair but it's not worth the price of most players having no chance of winning throughout most of the game. This would not be a problem if the game was not around a year long or it was not so demanding. In diplomacy you can just bash out orders and send your units toward the player who you dislike the most but in Civ you are screwed.

Anyway can a mod go ban " The Ghostwriters" now for being spam bot? I'm just saying this so people know that I caused someone to get banned. mischief

Only 4 artillery? This will be slow going against a Great Wall. Meiz is going to have to melee with his foreign legions.

Shouldn't be too hard, FLs outstrength Mother Sky.

And I'm really surprised Azza hasn't seen it, an alliance with Genoa should reveal Meiz's army.

Well I just prodded Azza to give an update now so we can know if he entered freakout mode.

I'm going to rolf if diplo isn't allowed in the next Civ5 game. I found proof it was off for the second Civ5 game--when Ichabod thought Serdoa was asking to declare war in 10 turns.

Diplomacy in Civ5 has the same drawbacks as in Civ4. Someone's going to be able to put in more effort than anyone else, like the runaway. And the runaway is perfectly capable of divide and conquering his opponents. I'm a runaway in a GMR game right now, and even if I don't trust the NAPs, I can gauge my opponent's intentions and cut deals with everyone.
