Benzema, I think he's up for a good World Cup, and while France are probably no better than QF (especially with Ribery crocked), I think he'll be their talisman
First two days:
Thursday 12th June 2014
21:00 World Cup – Group A Brazil vs Croatia
Brazil 3; Croatia 1.
The canaries will need a big win to get started, and given Croatias current level I think they can do it.
Friday 13th June 2014
17:00 World Cup – Group A Mexico vs Cameroon
20:00 World Cup – Group B Spain vs Netherlands
23:00 World Cup – Group B Chile vs Australia
Mexico 0; Camerouns 0
Neither team are impressive at the moment, Mexico should have the players to win, but then again they nearly failed to get out of the second easiest region. This has drab non-game written all over it,
Spain 2; Netherlands 1
The final revisited (that game should frankly have been awarded to Spain 3-0 after c. 30 mins, due to the Dutch no longer being able to field seven players and forced to forfeit the game). Spain should have enough, and while there's goals here, I think 2-1 is a good bet.
Chile 3; Australia 0
Sorry Aussie cousins, but this will most definitely be a bad world cup for yez. Chile need to win big here to have a chance of getting out of the group, and will be going for it. If they score early, I'll have predicted too low IMO.
So there's my predictions for the first four games.

Golden Boot: Muller
Total Goals: 182 (Darrel's mathematical approach plus the goals from penalties he has forgotten)

Ok, looking at a few stats here, spoilered for anyone who doesn't want to look at them:
2010: 145 goals. ave: 2.265 per game
2006: 147 goals. ave: 2.296 per game
2002: 161. ave: 2.52 per game
1998: 175 goals (the record for total scored). ave: 2.734
The numbers are going down, though it looks to have stabilised the last two world cups. But anyone prediction in the 170's will probably have overshot by 20 goals or more. Given the heat of some of the locations, I think though the numbers will fall still for this one.
So my prediction is: 137 goals

Penalties from shootouts don't count for goals statistics for either players or teams, so they probably shouldn't for this competition.
