I'm not sure why we're holding off on posting the discussion either, but it's amusing keeping you on the ropes for now. lol

Here's a random song while you wait. Does it have any hidden relevance to our picks? Maybe, maybe not. (Probably not.)

Hmmm, Zara with the first pick... have a feeling that neither Divine Julius nor Nasty Napolean will not be lasting through the return trip of this snake.

Zara, huh? He's okay I guess, but nothing particularly special. Weird choice with first position in the snake pick.

Oh well, that leaves just two more until our pick...

Gandhi next? Another slightly unexpected choice.

Just Barteq to go, then we're up. smile

That bastard. Let's kill him to gain his traits. That's how it works, right? lol

Quote:*Gawdzak/BaII - Zara Yaqob (Cre/Org)
*Gavagai - Gandhi (Phi/Spi)
*Barteq - Hannibal (Cha/Fin)
*GermanJoJo/Lord Parkin - Vikings (FISH/HUNT, Berserker/Trading Post)
*zanth/Bacchus - Victoria (Fin/Imp)
*Azza - America (AGR/FISH, Navy SEAL/Frontier Post)
*suttree - China (AGR/MIN, Cho-Ku-Nu/Pavilion)
*retep

Well, IMHO Hannibal is the best leader in the mod without AGR/PRO, so no surprise he went early. Actually surprised he didn't go first or second.

Victoria is decent but there are several alternatives I'd still prefer if I were Bacchus.

Will be interested to see if Azza sticks around long enough to test out the Frontier Post. Wonder if he'll be happy with his random allocation. wink

China is solid, slightly weaked with cheaper Agriculture. I take it this means suttree has a grain start, which will get going slightly faster than our seafood/livestock one.

I think Victoria can be very scary; not only is she a financial civ with an early game trait that helps get cottages down fast, but one that also helps in the midgame with doubled markets and banks. A doubled market is basically just a chop and a whip that likely cancels out its unhappiness, and a doubled bank can be ground out in a couple of turns of hammerage + a double whip. Could potentially be a terrifying combo if Bacchus had a good early game.

Its too bad about Hannibal, but I'm glad there's still plenty of Cha leaders to choose from. Of the main 4 we talked about: Napolean, Cyrus, Washington, or Degaulle, do any appeal to you more than others?

The main scary thing about IMP for me is the double-speed Banks allow for a very easy Wall Street. Large size, so 7 Banks required according to the sim (hmm, that's an odd number, was sure it was 6 or 8). Other than that, it's definitely not bad... just that I'd prefer other combinations.

Well with Commodore mentioning something like 200+ tiles per player, De Gaulle might be a reasonable option. But I'm not sure how 200+ tiles per player is squared with 13-15 tiles between starts as requested by suttree... maybe Commodore's made an executive decision to extend that slightly. Or maybe there are just a lot of islands (which is also fine for us).

Washington is fine - would be nice if he had the double speed Harbors but he's still a decent pick.

Cyrus is a lot of fun... would have been more fun with the Mongolia alternative we were contemplating before we saw the start, but he'd still work well with the Vikings.

Napoleon does get the double speed Trading Posts, but that's not really a necessity. Might give us a slightly better shot at the Great Lighthouse, but so would De Gaulle.

Other CHA leaders (non-AGR/PRO) are:

Lincoln (CHA/PHI) - Not really my cup of tea.
Brennus (CHA/SPI) - Fine but less interesting than the alternatives.

Shame there's no CHA/CRE leader in the mod, would be really neat now that the happiness is decoupled from the Monument.

Fortunately there are only 3 leader picks left so we're guaranteed to get one of the four options we wanted. I guess my tentative order of preference would be De Gaulle > Cyrus > Napoleon > Washington, but really any of them would be fine. Very glad we snagged our civ of choice first, since with Hannibal gone there's really little difference between the CHA leaders for us, and no bad options.

Incidentally, this will be old news to GermanJojo but to anyone lurking - we tested and found Fishing/Hunting works out identically to Hunting/Mining with this particular start (due to the techless Work Boat in the Tides of War mod). So we could have given the new Russia or Germany a test drive if we'd wanted with no difference to our early game. However, we had our hearts set on Vikings - it's the perfect start for their techs - so here we are. smile

Would have been really neat to go Hannibal of Vikings and try to break Wharves, but being fourth in the snake pick we were never going to get him. Ah well. smile (slowcheetah made a mistake in passing up Hannibal for Napoleon in PB20, in my opinion.)

Hmmmmm, I had been leaning towards Napolean but mmmm all those hills plus the plainscowl, both Degaulle and Cyrus would have beautifully productive capitals once its been clearcut. If there hasn't been any Industrious leaders picked by the time it gets back to us, it would almost be a crime to ignore that trait again...

And yeah, it is really a shame there is no Cha/Cre civ that would be AWESOME.
