[spoilers]Oh Canada! Victoria has a Commodore, eh?

For clarity, Commodore mentioned pocketbeetle first, not me. I'm not in the business of stealing hours away from people's free time. lol

Canadian Faces: Areonaught from the Ember Airbase

Summerside leave was a long, long time ago. Lieutenant Chambers said you'd be returning by way of the small city, but that hadn't happened yet this month. Oh well. It isn't like you can afford leave all that often besides; the hooch they make over in the engineering section is almost as good as the stuff in town anyway. Podunk town, not much worse than a tundra airfield, eh?

None of that matters now, somehow. The Colonel told Chambers the Emojeen's Heap would be making the Long Look this time; more than a week in the air, and the early autumn storms are beginning. You should be feeling nervous, you reckon, but when they cast aside the long lines and the engines start to thrum, you only feel peace and excitement. Buoyant, free, the good airship Heap begins her stately rise, with you at the helm. You've been doing this for five years' running now, and still it feels as fresh, as free, as it did the first time.

Lieutenant Chambers gnashes his teeth with impatience as the land slowly slips away to the north. He is young; some hot young rich buck from a Toronto industrialist family. Chambers keeps filling your ears with talk about the new “fighter” heavier-than-air toys. You can see the use of them, maybe, but that's not flying. You gently nudge the Heap a little more to the east; you are running with the winds here far over the grey seas. The noisy, coughing, snarling new areoplanes claw and drag their way through the sky, and burn oil like bonfires. They can stay up for mere hours; you will be spending the next week in heaven among clouds.

You wonder idly, at times, what life must be like for the pitiful Germans you see from your lofty throne. Someday, some year, you may come burdened with bombs, to drop fire and death upon the assembled armies of the Grey Kaiser; his enslaved and weary people will be free, emancipated at last by Canada. But for now, for years now, all you do is gently waft over the cold and brown lands of North Germany, counting trains on the rails and troops in their forts. It is peaceful, as calming as flight. You would never tell your superiors this, but you have come to view the huddled slaves and draftees with compassion and no little love. They are just people, and chained to their land by uncaring masters and iron duties.

But, then again, you pity most of the human race. They are all bound to the land, walking under gravity's crushing grip. Not you. No, not you. For you are an areonaught, a citizen of the sky. And nothing can ever make you leave your airy home. No comforts of town, no joys of food or drink or women, can make you chain yourself to the ground. You are a leaf on the wind.

8Take my life,
Take my land,
Take me where I cannot stand.
I don't care,
I'm still free;
You can't take the sky from me.
Take me out,
Into the blue,
Tell 'em I am commin' through.
Burn the land,
And boil the sea,
But you can't take the sky from me...

These are the best thing about this thread apart from ottowa porn.
Surprise! Turns out I'm a girl!

Okay, so let me make it clear; I'm having fun and want to continue. At least let me make my massive two hundred unit offensive to wipe out Dtay's stack! But obviously I don't want to chain anyone to his game...furthermore, as I already mentioned to Brick, my own “contender” status is weird for his win chance determination. In a world where Mackoti and Scooter are both extremely engaged, let's be honest, my chances are way lower than 10%. I'd rather my chances higher here, with Scooter and Mackoti both kind of mailing in the turns...but that gets a little recursive, doesn't it?

A normal turn of carrier-rushbuying and fighter mass upgrading was all we had here; I'll have five fighter-laden carriers next turn. There were some impressive fireworks somewhere in the world, as Finarry and Dtay each gained great generals. I don't know what happened exactly, but it appears that Finarry landed something near Jetboy and that something got wiped; there are numerous remaining yellow-lined infantry huddled in Jetboy but they're pretty decently covered. I'm sure this was actually something to generate additional opportunities, we'll see where the Badassdom counterstroke lands.

Finarry got gifted my very first fighter, and they are owed at least four more, because they just handed me this sweet sexy beauty. That's a transport and four commando infantry. Oooooh, we have much we can do with these beauties...

...and, of course, a couple scary monster trucks of my own! Commando tanks; yessss please!

I truly hope we can keep this going for long enough for Operation: Decimation Day to launch. One more turn of saving, then 3t for Radio; start 12-16 bombers, rush them all, go in. So...eight more turns. C'mon guys. frown

If this does crunch sadly to a close, I gotta say:
Fintourist/Old Harry, you guys are the best war allies ever. Who says you can't have alliances in CTON?

Sure enough, Finarry did use the ruckus to burn something; not sure how worthwhile it was, but hey, you guys have fun!

My own happy happy funtime is looming larger; here's a healthy crop of veterans streaming home along with the party favor bag of delicious commando goodies. It's kind of sad to only have sixteen remaining troops after garrisoning and losses, but it is well worth if for what they took. And these last old boys are tough, having killed German defenders from Kamloops to Dawson city in a dozen turns of blood and thunder.

I love my conquests; sure these cities don't even come close to approaching Greenland standards, but Frobisher Bay is a nice actually-legit city and the rest will fish some great utility for me.

On the other side of the planet, in fair Greenerland...I need to rename this place Grumman. Somerset alone has built 30% of my aircraft...

About that time, kids!
