Not on civ computer so no pictures again. No major update besides...

I got one of the sickest events. Build 11 forges before someone else completes the event or I get to Ren era, and I choose from:
1) Copper spawn. Meh.
2) All swordsmen get shock. That's actually pretty interesting especially with the RBmod swordsmen boost, but I feel I'm teching too quickly to get much benefit from it.

And finally, duh nuh nuh nuh

3) IF I have state religion: Get Great Engineer

WTF AWESOME yikes

So while I think this is less important than successful knight-war prosecution, this is now an obvious 2nd priority. I current have I believe 6 forges either completes or nearing completion. Need to find 5 more. Sounds like a job for the whip... Mostly I think in cities far away from the front that I wasn't really going to use for war prep (island / other continent cities mostly).

I remember doing that quest in SP, I think I got a settled Great Engineer. Could be wrong though.

Well that's a dissapointment... I'll look into this more before going out of my way to complete it then.

Been so long since pictures I know, but I keep posting these from my non-civ computer.

Not a ton new to report, Guilds eta on track. Mankins is turning into a beast city cause of its +11 food surplus when I give it all nearby food (it shares a grass-cow and floodplains-cottage with Wilfork). That food is going to run mines + workshops and then whip in short order.

I've been thinking through how swords change battle choices. THey won't be a large part of my army cause #knights, but they make longbows a lot less formidable defenders, having equal strength and conditional modifiers (in the city attack v city on hill scenerio) and coming at 10 hammers less.

Still don't know about Whosit v Krovice. I think I've ruled out Pind because trying to hold a stretched out, cross continential empire like that feel impossible. The Hindu Holy city is nice and close by, but I don't want that particularly until Pind builds the shrine since I doubt I can force another Great Prophet. Krovice is the all around better target to pull off a victory against, but also is a whole lot more likely to react to me churning out knights with tons of whips and cause a stalemate.

The question is... will he have enough time to get to a tech to whip something effective? In terms of city defense their best bet is a race to fuedalism, but (very minor pb19 spoilers)
as commodore is showing me rather starkly in pb19
longbows don't really hold up that well to knights and whipping them out is harder in rbmod. What I think would work best in their situation is attacking out with catapults and horse archers, which I don't see a super obvious counter to besides "build more knights" and try to avoid getting my whole stack needlessly collateraled. Their empire is also super spread out so playing area defense is hard and I can easily run 2t fork-like manuevers.

Whosit on the other hand I think is basically an autowin. He's so far behind in tech and production, I can't see myself even getting bogged down that much. But the potential gains are far smaller and I think Krovice + CH would bite off some for themselves to further decrease the reward. Could I plow through Whosit and THEN through CH without a) running out of troops and b) krovice hitting me from behind? Probably not, though if I got to my lovely protective Oromos those would make scary city defenders for the backside.

The combination of higher GNP growth than expected and this:

Means 3t to guilds (even taking into account that I run out of gold)

That is faster than expected. I'll need to replan out stuff. I get my golden age 6t after guilds comes in. I don't think I need/want to wait a full 14 turns after guilds to declare. Or 12 (to revolt to caste and back).

Tech wise I'll spend those 3 turns between guilds and golden age getting construction and code of laws. Golden age teching will be Civil service within the first 5 turns so I can revolt to bureaucracy.

There's also the possibility of just delaying the golden age, which I'll think about, but I find unlikely that I'll decide to do.

Raise the walls!

Look at all that pop! Won't be there for long...

20% crop lead in a field this size is very impressive. I look forward to your mobilization... still debating the target(s)?

Not sure how I took 9 - 3 and got 3 in the above post... there are 6 turns between guilds and golden age.

Leaning reasonably strongly towards Krovice. Nothing set in stone though.

Preparations -

Only ~4 of those will actually complete as knights, the others will all be whipped again...

Finishing guilds this turn was a struggle with all the whips, I'm completing it by a margin of a single beaker right now.
