The reload request is because my shitty mouse double-clicked and accidentally fired the 2-man GA - one of the GPs isn't even rightfully mine. (I'll explain later.)
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

Gaspar used the "steal GP" function of the Svartalfar.

How active a player do you intend on being in this game? What I mean is do you think it's better to just focus on the internal development and wait for an opening or do you think you need to build some troops and cause some havoc?

Our original intention was to stop teching at Guilds, whip the civ down for knights and then ruin TBS's game for the rest of the game.

However, recently with MoM being more boss than we thought it would be, and other people not named TBS conquering and killing, and Oxy's terribly under defended land, we feel... maybe there's a chance.

Thus we plan on moving all our shit to TBS border, sniping some dtay stuff, then possibly turning and hitting Oxy. TBS might make us fight him though, in which case we'll ruin his day as best we can. If he attacks Thoth we might ruin his day anyway.

Ah who the hell knows. The only thing I know is I'm not saying "fuck this game" as much. Is this what hope feels like?

So the situation on my last login, now that we've reverted was thus... I was greeted to this upon login:

That 187g represented all the gold available to us at the time of his asking. I thought he was just batshit insane and declined the deal but upon poking about my empire, I noticed he gifted me a Great Scientist, which was conveniently located on the Sugar tile closest to his border. So he's offering a GSci for 787g. I'm not entirely sure what to do about this. Here are the relevant details.

  • We have one GP currently, a Great Merchant.
  • We can very quickly generate a 2nd great person from Quivira, overwhelmingly likely to be an Artist, something like a 2% chance of being a spy.
  • We are not intending to fire the 2nd golden age soon.
  • The most likely useful bulb from a Great Scientist would be Chemistry (next 3 techs are Guilds (this turn) > Engineering > Gunpowder)
  • A Great Scientist will probably bulb a little less than half of Chemistry for us.
  • I accidentally fired the Golden Age trying to test Trade Mission values, so I'm not going to do that again, but my guess is we'd get roughly 7-800g from a trade mission - the ToA hasn't been built and there are limited places in which I can risk moving the merchant. 700g is worth roughly 1600 beakers to our Empire right now.

Here are the options as I see them:

  1. Return the GSci to dtay
  2. Negotiate the price of the GSci down to somewhere where we'd be making a significant profit - I think a max of 500g off the top of my head.
  3. Offer him the Gold for the GSci and his border cities with us (and peace after that so he can fight his more serious wars.)

I'm not just going to take his GSci - that's the sort of shit Commodore pulled in PBEM38 that had me not talking to him for a year and has Davy at a 30% chance of randomly popping in this thread to chastise me for holding a grudge about it. But I don't think the Scientist is worth anything remotely close to 800g to us. We already have an Academy in the capital and there is no other city generating sufficient commerce to make it worthwhile. So basically things we can do with the GP surplus are bulb half of Chemistry, run a TM or use the Artist to culture bomb some newly captured territory. There is also the not insignificant issue of making a gpt deal with him resulting in us not being able to wardec him and Commodore took Mario this turn which means he can reasonably capture the border cities with us soon if we don't act fast.

My current inclination is to return the GSci and position units to hit the two closest cities to us next turn. But I thought I'd briefly open it up to thoughts from anyone reading here.

So I decided to offer dtay 400g for the GP. If he takes it, I'll keep the GSci. If he declines, I give it back. I figure the value of immediacy is worth more to him anyway - he needs Longbows now, not 10t from now.
