1. All turn splits need to be public--this lets us identify the bottlenecks in the system and try to figure out ways to solve them. Along with this, turn splits must be arranged as to get turns played in the most efficient way possible.
2. We keep a 48 hour timer, but with a caveat: Parkin/other lurkers can play your turn anytime after the initial 24 hours have passed, no exceptions.

(2) makes no sense to me. If we are telling people they have a 48 hours turn timer, how can we then say "but if you don't play in teh first half someone else may play for you."? That's a 24 hour timer with a 24 hour period for lurkers/Parkin to play before the turn rolls without it playing.
Yes it is--it's a 24 hour timer that doesn't need people to pause for Parkin when he can't reach the turn/reloads being required when people don't pause--that's exactly what it needs to be.

(BTW why can't everyone pause--they just don't have a pause key? Could remapping that key to something unused/underused be in the scope of a mod?)

I don't know how serious this is, but quite clearly I don't actually care what occurs - I just picked what looked like the joke vote. I'll continue to play ASAIC every time I get an email from the tracker.

Volt Goat it is. *points at my new avatar*

Do we really need 48 hour timer any longer though? We upped it to that because of the Gamespy problems - and looking at the tracker it seems most people are now able to log in simultaneously again, thanks to novice, with some few exceptions.
As the Americans learned so painfully in Earth's final century, free flow of information is the only safeguard against tyranny. The once-chained people whose leaders at last lose their grip on information flow will soon burst with freedom and vitality, but the free nation gradually constricting its grip on public discourse has begun its rapid slide into despotism. Mackoti needs to replay Nakor's turn due to the reload earlier in turn 121. I'm not sure he's noticed that, so I sent him an email.

Another problem with this game is that people don't read the tech thread. As such it might be a good idea to keep spammish posts to a minimum here.

Everybody can pause using the Windows On-Screen Keyboard.
I have to run.

I see virtually no difference in the number of teams yet to play this turn at ~9h remaining than when we had a 24 hour clock at ~9h remaining. People who are excited about playing turns play them early on the clock, people who are not only play when social obligation compels them. And, for the record, I only voted for multiple options because they were there and I could "live with" those other options. Anything longer than 48 hours is absurd IMO and is not sustainable but I'd rather have that and a solid expectation of knowing when the turn is going to reliably come around than an indefinite pausing policy.

So when 5 people haven't played when the turn hits zero, are we waiting or playing on? I think that is the crux of the matter at this point, not the length of the timer.

With 48 hour turns we shouldn't have pauses except when the game goes down due to thunderstorms. I'm assuming that anyone who hasn't played by the time we get to the last couple of hours won't mind LP playing their turn. For someone in the first half of a turn split the last couple of hours means 24 hours after the turn rolls.

I'm not sure what to do about people trying to game the clock to get 2nd half in warfare in this game.

This. I posted about the poll twice here, but it looks like people still missed it.

Oh, and Q - sorry I should have used a wink after that line.

Paused for Mackoti/Nakor with 24 minutes left on the clock.

I voted for 48 due to turn splits, not Gamespy (or your local lightning); we've got to have a lot of those going on right now. I think the pace is likely to pick up once we start getting eliminations.
