Bob's is the trickiest, but it's pretty dang rewarding to a Fishing/Mining civ, yeah. Or Vikings, because hells yah that toolkit.
By the way, starts are mostly what the script gave, just balanced and sugar/ivory added to super-charge things. So Bob's was the only sea start given, etc, etc.

I personally am pretty tired of seeing people picking Darius>Huayna>Sury>Mansa every base BTS game.
My prediction for picks:
Leaders:
Mehmed
Bismark
Wang Kon
Isabella
Zara
Civs:
Egypt
Zulus
Rome
China
Sumeria
Watch me go 2/10.
I hope your predictions are completely wrong. I'd like to follow a BTS game with some variety. So far...3 for 3.
Interesting to see if R.E.M. follows a different rubric though.

Vultures loses to regular axes was a turn off for a lot people at first. I think then people started to realize if they are fighting an axe vs. axe war where the difference in combat strength would matter, they are probably fucked anyways. Whereas getting early Courthouses can be a game changer depending on the map. For example, I think the Ziggurats played a large part in Oxy's PBEM 57 win. Agriculture/Wheel is always great of course.
I think REM will value things differently. I noticed that he is playing the CFC pitboss game going on right now. There he picked Ragnar of English where Darius of Egypt was available. I see that as suboptimal.

So here's the map, as a whole...it's cramped, but that was decidedly the directive. I don't see any screaming pockets of safety; there will be distortions based on who Jowy Jowies, of course, but hopefully its decently balanced as other people neighbor each other. Philosophical is ballin', here, but I'm okay with it moving up in value.
Actually, this looks really fun, kind of makes me want to play something like this too. Anyone else?

what
man, with a 10T normal-speed worker, an ASAP desire for agriculture (corn), hunting (ivory), ah (sheep), and BW (7 BFC forests not counting the ivory) this is NOT a start where you want to skip out on worker techs. His first worker is gonna spend half of its early existence building roads out to goddamn nowhere. Maybe he can make it work with an Imp civ... Catherine maybe? Stay low and spread wide?

that map looks legit for sure. I'm playing a map kinda like this on a steamworks pitboss and it's been really fun. I'm Organized Sumeria and man alive is it ridiculous on this kinda map. Players will have tanked their economies by 5 cities I bet, considering this is a small world size, just in time for 45h Zigs to start getting whipped...
Is GLH banned? Even if not, I feel like Roosevelt could be a real monster here.

This is what really caught my eye, I hope he's not serious.
Cataphracts are my favourite unit in the game, but even I admit they just aren't worth it most of the time.
There goes my perfect prediction record.

Kinda, yeah. I was actually going to post and ask for the fifth spot yesterday (?) when I saw Bob had already done so. But I doubt there will be interest in another pbem now with this one just started and everything else going on at the moment ...

Fifth if desired.
Boom.

Re: REM
Cataphracts would wreck face here. But knights 20t earlier >>> cataphracts 20t later. Every. Time. Which is why, sadly, the Byzantines are bad.
