Joey/Parkin get up and slam

He did move a warrior into the city, but I decided against razing it. First of all, I know he's Haram's friend, and I'd rather not send him into immediate total-war grudge mode in a repeat of PB20. Besides, suttree (now up to 5 cities, as seen below) is definitely the bigger near-term threat even though he's a bit farther away. At any rate, we really don't have hammers to spare on gratuitous military with this combo.

Won our 99.1% odds battle with the barb warrior, go figure, and discovered, in good/bad/ugly news here, that we have a barb city to conquer!

The good news is that its not a bad spot on its own; the bad news is that emperor barb cities I think are immediately filled with barbarchers, which will make this a real pain in the ass to take. Still, cheaper than a settler I guess. The ugly news is that this kinda messes with our dotmap, as copper/crab, both first-ring, was a pretty sure spot. As it stands, I think we have 3 spots in the north to consider, all three of which we'd want but am unsure as to which to get with the settler about to pop in Titanic:

1.) has a first-ring plains deer, second-ring wet wheat, lots of forests for Moai (now tougher, as Barteq seems to be a lot closer to the stone than we are, as I noticed another border down there)
2.) wet-wheat first-ring, fish second-ring
3.) copper-first ring, flood plains second-ring already in culture, NO OTHER FOOD but would supply copper to make taking the barb city easier. We'd need to farm the floodplain to make this site work; yes, I also just puked in my mouth a bit.

There's also the wheat/clam spot below Lusitania to consider.

Right now I'm leaning towards doing 2 or 3; I think we can probably take that barb city with an axe and a trio of chariots, with Lusitania building the oomph and Titanic focusing on the GLH.

Sorry to hear that you're so busy, but do you have any thoughts here? I get back on Monday evening, and can take over the turns again then. Think you can cover the Sunday turns?

Didn't hear from either of you guys, so I ended up choosing the deer spot. It is more defensible and has more trees to chop.

Zanth built the Oracle T58; Confucianism was not chosen, so I guess he took MC.

Current plans are: Grow Lusitania to size 6, then pump workers/settlers; chop GLH to completion at Titanic.

Found retep with our workboat in the far east; he is also at 6 cities.

That spot seems fine. Sorry I didn't get back to you, had a completely insane weekend with barely a free moment to breathe. At least work's picking up, though I wouldn't want a repeat of that every weekend. tongue

Bit early for someone to have teched Writing as well as Priesthood with these tech costs and maintenance, so Metal Casting is probably a safe bet for the Oracle dude.

Six cities is quite a lot this early - retep will be hurting techwise for a bit unless he has some very good land.

Any idea approximately when we can theoretically manage the GLH?

I also had a crazy-busy weekend, so apologies. I actually would have recommended 1 or 2 (didn't really have a huge preference for either...I don't know what all resources we currently have, so I would probably have gone with the one that would give us resources we don't currently have)...3 isn't a terrible city location (there's enough water for farms), but it's not great, either. Depends on how badly you think we need the copper.

I think I'd raze the barb city. It misses the copper and the clams. I'd put a city there 1E of your #3 once you've razed the barb. That gives you fresh water, a hill (grassland hill, but better than flatland), copper, clams and a calender resource and leaves the flood plain for Titanic. And plenty of forest.

Good to hear that everyone agrees with my spot! lol Sorry to hear y'all been so busy, I know how stressful that can be.

Parkin, as for your GLH ETA question, I'm not sure how long it will take to land exactly, although I'll try simming it out tomorrow or Wednesday once I have time to update our sandbox. Off the top of my head, I would guess about ~10 more turns maximum - we have very strong raw hammerage in Titanic and 4 forests to chop. Could be as little as 8, although unlikely to be sooner than that.

Grimace, I'd feel a bit queasy about razing the barb city... on the one hand, it makes our copper site very weak, I agree, but on the other hand it is an extremely strong site on its own, is coastal, and, as Cha/Ind, we have a more difficult time getting cities out onto the field than pretty much any other civ.

At any rate, we won't even be able to capture it for quite awhile. There's still a southern copperto think about, although that one needs a border pop if we want to keep the city coastal and is a bit far away.

What techs should we aim for next? I'm thinking that we just Writing done and over with already.

welp, bad news is that we missed our flight home. the good news is, we now have a 4xp chariot! lol bang

GLH will take 8 more turns. We have 4 forests, and the workers to chop them in 8 turns, so that's 80 hammers. We have 16 in the kitty already, and currently get 11hpt. In 3 turns, a mine will finish and take us to 13hpt. That's 16+3*11+13=62. So far, that's 142/193 and need 51. We grow in 4 turns, and so can get 13, 14, or 15 hammers per turn depending on which tiles we work; plenty to cover the 51 in 4 turns. This isn't exact, of course; I'm not taking into account the roundoff error from the +50% industrious bonus, but it isn't going to affect the final ETA by a whole turn unless we want to shave a turn or two by whipping it to completion.

New city founded this turn; didn't pick a name for it yet. Any suggestions? Retap has 5 cities, btw, although Suttree now does in fact have 6.

Hmmm.... decided to whip to get this sucker done faster. Slows growth to 6, but does complete the wonder a turn earlier while still leaving a tree for later. (for chopping into a granary, probably)

How about USS Arizona for the city name?

And yeah, I guess without copper it's not too easy to get the barb city unless you spam chariots. I'd still go for the better site, but luckily I'm not in charge here. smile

Great name, that one's a classic!

I still haven't seen what the garrison in that barb city is yet... I'm fairly sure its 2 archers, but if its warriors we might be able to take it very soon...

T64. Finally have graphs on suttree. He's ahead of us on food, behind on MFG, and crashed his economy. (keep in mind his GNP is inflated with additional 6 Cre culture)

I forgot to turn on research last turn so OB with retep and Barteq will have to wait a turn. =/
