Thanks! I was scared that Hinduism would fall and then I'd really be in a hole. Now we shouldn't have any problems holding it in the short term so I may even be able to get some development going for once. I think city #3 has to go south to hook up the horses. Although settling for the western ones is also tempting.

Sorry for the post, some of the other lurkers feel I may have overstepped the mark, I do apologise (well more to the other players than you, but you know). I would have taken it down had you not quoted it. Not your fault obviously, but sorry.
Oh don't mind them. Lurker policing these days like to think I've never played a game of civ before. Which is also detrimental to building community, but I'll stop before I get on that soap box. Don't worry, you didn't say a thing I hadn't thought of already. Although I'm not quite letting myself think far enough to a mounted strike against his city; that is still a long ways off if we even get there!
Edit: Why were they even on your case to begin with? All you did was say why the city I settled was a good city. (Which was really nice, btw. In a game where it feels nothing had gone right it felt really good to get a compliment over the first thing that had. )

Did you queue up the settling and it did it for you?
In a PBEM the tech resolution is all done at the end of each player's turn. So I settled the city when I had one turn left to finish the technology for Polytheism. Because it was my first city ( ... on turn 32 ... on quick speed ... ) after I hit enter to finish the turn then the research was added, I finished the tech, and the religion was founded.
I didn't specify that the second screenshot was from after I hit enter; that probably was confusing if you haven't seen the trick a hundred times before.
Yeah, if I skim over something that doesn't make sense or you see anything else I don't explain well please let me know and I'll explain it better. I've been playing and reporting long enough that I assume (wrongly) that everybody will just be bored by the details. But I'm happy to explain them.

in a thread in a forum
which is every thread
in every forum
on a day which is every day
i read a lurker thread post
which is every lurker thread post
and read some moralizing then forgot it right away
they say goldfish got no memory
i guess their lives are much like mine
the little plastic castle
is a surprise every time
it's hard to say if they are happy
when they don't seem much to mind
from the tone of your innocuous advice
i recognized your avatar
as you stepped in out of the shadows and posted
your new enthusiasm eclipsed everyone else in the room
as they paused to sneer at the lurker from out of forum
i said, "Baby, look at you this morning
you are so way the fucking cutest
be careful posting advice
i think these lurkers want to shoot us
i think there's some kind of competition here
to see who can be the rudest
people talk about my posts
like i come in two dimensions
like congratulations is a sign of my declining mind
like what i happen to be posting the day
that someone makes a federal case
is my new statement for all lurkerkind
i wish they could see us now
spamming threads and new reports
like some energetic new poster
for some nearly dead forum
quick someone call the lurker police
and file a report
in a thread in a forum
which is every thread
in every forum
on a day which is every day
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?
