I noticed that EA can slave next turn, it's probably for the best. Kinda. I hope.
Don't you think Balotelli should kill the lion first ?

We're losing worker turns, it's annoying. At least we'll be cottaging our one and only river grass soon.

No it is. There's a great article on granary mechanics at cfc. Basically it should be built when there is half the food bar full. So we will get the full benefit next growth, when camp nou will be size three, working fish / cottage / silver and the cap can work crab / corn. We will get growth again very quickly with the granary out faster. Re the worker turns, it is annoying but alas what can we do...

We are a bit spread out from the hope of claiming that other spot, so our workers will be stretched. Sadly not a lot we can do about that. We have only lost 2 worker turns so far. Roading the corn I agree is not hugely needed but still not too bad. Also we have 2 river grassland. The other one is the forest tile. After we cottage the other tile we should chop/cottage that next. Notice GJ only have 3 river grassland at their cap, just 1 more than us. We can get MCG up to speed cottaged soon. We should chop 1 forest for a chop/whip of the granary and then get a settler out of there at size 4.

I don't think balotelli should risk killing the lion. He is more useful preventing barb archer/axe spawns. The lion is obvious where he is going and won't enter our borders, so can be managed quite easily.

GJ only have 3 river grassland at the cap but OMG those floodplains. We only have a river in the devoid-of-resource peninsula to the north. Anyway, not really complaining but we can't lag behind in the expansion phase while Plako is already far ahead of everyone.

Ok lots of images for this upload.

Easiest things first. Messi still has found nothing. Obviously NW NW next turn. Getting a bit depressing how much nice land there is up there that we cannot really compete for...

Balotelli to the SW. A barb warrior has appeared. (This was me checking if there was any barb combat bonus) The goal is still that marked square, but to only allow a combat if we have decent odds. Essentially 75% or better is my thinking. The lion disappeared, I assume to the tile SW of the western peak.

Ronaldo, our other spawnbuster only actually needs to stay in place for another 10 turns. Then we will get 3rd ring borders for both MCG and EA, thus they will prevent barb spawns for us

Checked the event log, henge has gone this turn (I assume to possibly plako? Would explain his monster score. I am fairly certain that he only has 1 other city not 2, but he did get at least 2 techs from huts - we only got 3 huts in total!)

Checking GJ land - they just have so many power resources to hook frown have both the wheat and those fish in the second city online, as well as the corn. No copper yet but as that cities borders have popped now should not be too long. I also noted they are teching AH, I thought that we had pegged them as having that... Ah well, we know that they have copper and are agg anyway, so we should be on our toes anyway. Imbrahomavic should stay there I feel to give us warning of units coming. An attack now would be rubbish, but hopefully they we see they have us penned in and go expansion heavy.

Demos - pretty good GNP (admittedly religion and full tech) but poor everywhere else. But 5 pop, what do we expect I suppose? At least 3 whipping cities!

Ergh. Depressed with the amount of land there. And that nowhere we could have put a second city to get as many nice resources. Plus if we had settled for copper we would have immediately ceded the critical city location to GJ...
We also need to get copper online ASAP I feel. Hunting next, and if they start building power go for archery. If not, animal husbandry.

EA should build workboat, lighthouse for growth and then a settler somewhere in there. Worker there to finish cottage, then chop and cottage the other grass river?
MCG cont on a granary, 1 chop and 1 pop whip. send a worker to start chopping a forest next turn there, whilst the other finishes the sugar cottage and then cottages a grass tile?
CN to build a gran working fish/corn next turn, add in silver at growth and juggle the corn/cottage between the 2 cities

Anything else to input atm? Thank god for org. We will need lighthouses everywhere to make the most of these cities...

EDIT we also need to be careful, as GJ can see what resources we have hooked because of the sailing trade routes.

Copper will be super important, if we don't get copper soon he'll start considering an axe rush. That's also why I thought AH would be important, chariots would be nice sooner rather than later.

Ok turn 50

The land keeps going and going... Another choke style entrance it seems. Hopefully shouldn't be too far to the next player now.

GJ copper is still unhooked, and he now has visibility on our holy city. No point being aggressive and declaring war, there isn't much other info he can get.

Lion appeared again, barb warrior disappeared. He could have gone N, S or W. Since we have the other warrior out of CN now I am trying to reach the spawn busting site on defensive terrain.

MCG - now has a sugar cottage, sent 1 worker to chop. Working clams/sugar. Other will cottage another grass tile next turn. Will whip granary 3-2
EA - working clams, building workboat. Will be able to grow on a lighthouse next turn. River cottage being built.
CN - fish now netted, working fish/corn. Now building granary after warrior build.

Next turn we should swap CN to fish/silver and EA to corn. This will allow them to both grow that turn. Think the optimum place for the next settler will be cap at size 4... But not 100%

Anything that I have missed do you think?

Balotelli is too overrated! You should change that name or he'll end up losing to a wolf or something. twirl

By the way, could you guys turn the resource bubbles on when taking pictures? It makes it easier for the lurkers. nod

Or pulling off killing an axe! Tbf I didn't think we had any lurkers, so I was just posting for mine and ads sake - I think the length of this thread will put most of the others off reading this after the game :P I will turn them on next posts though (the last 2 turns I played I am about to post now without them again)

Since we have a lurker though, who I guess has at least skimmed the thread to know what is happening - do you think it was worth the gamble to try and claim the plains hill spot that GJ settled? Purely looking at fastest expansion, clearly CN should have been the first settle, to share the corn and use the fish/silver. But I think the defensive capabilities of taking that site made it worthwhile trying to push for. I ask now as I wanted to know if it was a bit pie in the sky... I think in hindsight we may have struggled to hold it and had a war of attrition to zilch.

In the end things aren't looking too bad at 3 city with a religion, although there was a fair bit of luck landing that latish poly. But you would agree that our copper being tundra and away from any contested land is pretty rubbishly placed compared to GJ copper in a great second city? (which if I had their start, would have gone on the corn to pick up whales too and a bonus on the tile)

So got to play 2 turns in one go here smile always good to save some time! Was also weird to have the turn roll on me. I thought the barbs would move as soon as the turn rolled but they took about 30secs. Led to a strange stand off...

So Messi, the moves can be summed up in 1 picture. Seems like another choke like between us and GJ. Still no sight of culture. We have got the entire coast scouted out though so we will have ability to trade, unless we cannot go through GJ lands for TRs without open borders with him too. I very rarely play online with OB so I am not too familiar with their mechanics, but from what I understand we can trade through them as long as we are not at war (I think).

GJ land, copper was hooked t50 or 51. Capital was double whipped last turn, and now as I type this they have had a score increase this turn so have city 4 up too (T52). No other buildings in their that I note. Also the warrior that was in their city has left - barb issues? All that unused land likely will cause a few spawns I suppose.

I sat on the hill with balotelli t51 as the lion was right below him, and was a bit unsure what to do when as I said at the start the lion did not move. He was not obeying a turn split! :P Eventually he hit for minimal damage, so I ran him towards our spawn bust point. I had another look at the lay of the land and realised that we could also spawn bust on the deer tile to the south of the hill labeled warrior here, so that is where I am heading as we will have odds if that warrior wandering around can attack us.

Tech - sailing in, straight onto hunting. Likely an hus next unless we see an axe coming through their border city.
EA - working clam/corn, will grow to 3 in 2 turns, wb due next turn. Will build a lighthouse there to grow on until size 4 before a settler which should be 4-2 whipped I feel.
MCG - size three, will see when the chop is in (next turn whether the food in the box makes it worth whipping. Likely will be best to whip but delay growth a turn or 2 until the granary fills up. After the granary another settler for sheep city (below the cap) a 4-2 whip.
CN - working fish/silver/cottage. Nice commerce, although a little slow to build granary and and grow now. This city is the one I am most unsure what it should be building at present. Actually having a think about it now I think a worker whipped out of here would be very helpful for the copper city to get it up ASAP now I type this. A whip gives 40 hammers as exp, we can put 8fpt into it, so it can be whipped after 3 turns of build. We will get some nice overflow for the granary too.

Workers - the one NW of the cap to go and chop for the next settler, then to build a cottage on the chopped tile. the 2 at MCG after the 2nd cottage and the chop, I am not entirely sure of their best action, but I feel probably to set up the sheep city, or perhaps chop for the cap as well the forests far out from it.
