OK, well that sounds like Spiritual and a Naval Civ are consensus selections. In which case I think Civ should be first selection. We have:
Portugal: Fishing / Mining; UU=Carrack (Caravel that carries 2x unis); UB=Feitoria (Customs House that acts as Colossus for that city)
Dutch: Fishing / Agriculture; UU=East Indiaman (Galleon w/+1 capacity & +2 strength); UB=Dyke (Moai+ available for each city)
Viking: Fishing / Hunting; UU=Berserker (Maceman w/Amphibious & +10 City Attack); UB=Trading Post (Provides Flanking I to eligible units built in city (Ships & Horse) unclear if this should be restricted to Naval Units only)
Carthage: Fishing / Mining; UU=Numidian Cav (Horse Archer w/Combat I); UB=Cothon (Harbor w/+1 Trade Route)
So, the Dutch techs are not ideal for our start, although they arguably have the strongest UU/UB combo. Portugal works with reasonable techs and UU/UB combo, however I'd prefer not to play this as I'm already doing so in PB22 (I'm open to being overruled on this though). Carthage has same techs as Portugal, very meh UU, and a decent economic UB. Vikings techs of Hunting/Fishing also work well for us, UU is an aid to naval invasion, and UB has been nerfed from base BtS, but still provides a useful promo.
Personally I would favour the Vikings or maybe the Dutch (we'd want to consider WB-first).

Ruff: Dreylin and I were chatting and we agreed that Dutch would not be optimal, if we go worker-first we'd probably run out of things for the worker to do when researching BW along the route Hunting-Mining-BW, and WB-first is slow. Vikings would allow us to go Mining-BW and then decide on the third tech so that's what we're favouring. What do you think?

Don't we have fish in our BFC? Workboats are unlocked with fishing so that could be an option.

We do. Conventional wisdom (FWIW) says that WB starts are slower than Worker starts, however in the case that we took the Dutch it probably would be better for us to go that route due to the unsuitable starting techs for our land.
IMO, the Dutch or the Vikings are both fine picks; my feeling is that the Dutch are more weighted towards a later part of the game, so we should be looking to choose a Trait that would help with the early game (e.g. EXP (Workers & WB), AGG (Barracks), PRO (Granaries)) to pair with SPI. We might have a bit more freedom with Vikings.
I think we need to try to get a decision made today though, as we're holding things up a bit.
I think that if I had to vote, it would be for the Vikings. It's very marginal, but I think that the added (unintended) bonus of the Trading Post giving Flanking to 2-movers is maybe what tips it over the egde.

I'm more than happy with Vikings. We are taking a little bit of a gamble re a wet map ... but the Flanking promo does provide some protection against that.

I don't think we're taking that much of a risk given our screenshot (RB22 spoiler: ) We've got a coastal start and fog-gazing suggests additional coast to the Northeast and also that the SW land is a penninsula. It may not be a completely wet map, but I think our region is and now we're set up to take advantage.

My guess is that we're going to have the full choice of SPI leaders available to us, so let's start discussing what other trait we're going to select...
SPI/AGG is Monty, right?

That could be a good pick given that it is MP & Barracks give you culture in this mod (IIRC).
