So, I have no idea what I'm doing with this crazy mod. Should I just chariot rush Krill?

Seriously though, I'm stumped as to what I should pick. Everything seems reasonably well balamced, with the possible exception of charismatic (+2 happiness isn't that great when all luxuries are available). My impression is that this mod produces much longer games than BtS, so any traits that help long term are useful... but land grabbing early on helps long term also.
and since I can see the map, I know it has a lot of coastline so I should do something with that. Options include: being financial, being portugal/carthage, building the colossus/great lighthouse, or launching an attack with amphibious units (most easily done as vikings or an aggressive leader).

So before joining this I took time to read a bunch of old game threads, including mine from all the games I played in. Its very interesting, reading something from a distance of 2+ years. Gives a sense of perspective.
In particular, it made me realize how much I bungled things by going for weird gambit instead of just focusing on basic micro. I think my best played game might actually be poem 11, my first! Since in that one I was more restrained and just took care of basics.
So anyway, that's my goal for this game. Avoid weird gambit (early on, anyway) and just focus on the basics.

...But having said that, I have to admit I'm awfully tempted to try and do something with swordsman that have a +50% city attack.

Don't archers get a bonus against swords in the mod? I know swords are more viable than base BtS but other units have changed too. For myself, I've only played PB18 with the mod and haven't used swords at all so I'm no expert here.

Oh, good catch. Looks like they do get a 30% bonus against swords. Still though, most people don't defend with big stacks of archers, and if they did you could take them down easily with catapults. An amphibious sword attack could punch through almost any early defense.
