ON May 16th, 2006, a forum thead for one of the greatest mods ever was created: here
Currently Fall From Heaven is mostly dead. It has pockets of forum activity in a couple of places. But, a mod of a game is nigh guaranteed to have less traffic than the main game and it has been several years. Civ5 has come and gone. New Fantasy 4X Games have come onto the scene to capture our hearts. It's natural that Fall From Heaven will "Fall" out of use and that's okay. Fall from Heaven has brought so much fun and joy to those who played it. It had an excellent run.
But, before that chapter is closed completely, it deserves a celebration. It deserves one crowning game that highlights the great diversity of Fall From Heaven's mechanics and structure. A crowning game that will determine once and for all who is truly the undisputed master of Fall from Heaven.
Game Proposal:
The group of volunteer players will vote amongst themselves the group of civilizations that will be played. The total number of civilizations will match the number of players (i.e. 6 players = 6 civilizations).
A map is created with equal or roughly equal starts for each civilization. Then, that map is used to create a number of games equal to the number of players (i.e. 6 players = 6 games). Every player plays every civilization just in different games. The player who wins a plurality of games is the undisputed master of Fall from Heaven!
Unlike other games, the map will start out revealed to all players because each player can already see the map parts in a different game. Civilization choices are suggested to be as diverse as possible to reflect the differing strategic and flavorful niches each civilization possesses.

Err...the tenth anniversary *is* over a year away.
Ignoring that, I think managing to sign up people for six games is going to be a stretch - I know I won't be doing it.
A more realistic setup, if we want a "FFH Master" would be to setup a duel league, which I'm much more likely to be up for (despite knowing I'll lose).

Seeing as how your last 2 game threads languished for some time, and the general state right now is I'm too busy. I think it's well that we start playing early.
The point of the challenge is to have 6 or as many games at once so that you play 6 games or whatever at once. The player order remains the same regardless of what civ you play.

What I'm saying is that even if I had no other games ongoing or intended to report no games, I still wouldn't signup for 6 games, let alone ones that, by necessity, would have incredibly similar setups.

If we had mapmakers willing to make multiple maps, we could potentially go with that. Given that we have numbers problems I figured the more conservative angle was the same map with different diverse civs. The different civs angle makes it more interesting because of the variety of tactics each civ naturally gravitates toward.
I think the title "Master of Fall From Heaven" needs to be awarded not after one game but multiple games for it to have more meaning like any other more mainstream competitive game. Multiple games naturally ties into the play as multiple different civs above. Now it shows that this person not only has depth but breadth of knowledge about the game.
You aren't required to sign up (although it might be nice if you did). Alternatively you might be a good mapmaker if/when there's enough interest.

Not a signup.
We've played dozens of FFH and EitB games here, and have all of the results tabulated in this document.
If you are simply curious who has the best FFH win record on RB, it should host all the data you need. I believe Ellimist has the most victories, and TBS the best ratio of wins to losses. Thoth has quite a few wins as well.

Yes there have been games done here before. However, the 10th anniversary deserves its own celebration, its own challenge, its own crown and title. This goes beyond Realms Beyond. I'm inviting prominent players from the past who played before who never participated here.
I started this thread now to give some time to grow. This game has been dying for some time. It deserves one last epic go!

Also not a signup. To play a midgame turn properly generally requires 30-60 minutes. You're basically asking people to sign up for a full time job in order to participate in your tournament.

I don't think the typical turn should take more than 30 minutes. Regardless, what's a better alternative? You want a series of duels like Q suggests? This event requires more than one game for its import methinks and it wouldn't feel right to hand off the title of "Master of Fall from Heaven" for just one game.
A series of duels could be arranged in a double elimination tournament. The problem of course is the variable nature of game length with PBEM which is why I suggested that all games run concurrently.
Alternatively we could do 3 games with all participants. Winner is 2 of 3 with a tiebreaker game if there are 3 separate winners. Each map would be sufficiently different than the other ones to test strategic depth of the participants.

To be honest, a tournament on the scale you imagine simply isn't feasible. A duel league might be doable, because it's possible to knock out a duel over the course of a weekend or two- but a full, 6-player PBEM will take at least four months to complete. With several games at once, either turns will eat up way too much time, as Mardoc points out, or you'll have to stagger so many games one after another as to require a years-long commitment.
